Default painting side skirts...

I own a 98 integra LS Satin Silver and I would like to paint my side skirts to match the color of the car. What all do I need? Primer, actual paint, a gloss coating? And where can I find the exact color I need for my car and the other paints? Or is this something not to be done in a typical garage? Thanks.

I would reccomend that you do not try to do this yourself. From what I know, the sideskirts on integra's are made of a plastic that has a texture to it, therefore making it very hard to get paint to stick to the surface. My body shop said they didn't even want to do it because they thought that they would peel and crack before long and they would have to paint them like every year or so. I reccoment that you do what most of us do and go ahead and buy the factory sideskirts.

Good Luck with what you choose to do!

please don't do it yourself. That's how you make your car look crappy. Pay a professional to do it and you'll save yourself some time and your car will like you better too.

Best solution. There was a time I see people used to paint their black bumpers, door handles, and side skirts. They would peel big time in a few years.

Even the guys who "did it right" still don't look right after a few years.

Don't do it.

Good point. This is where we based on "end result" rather than the process. Most of us don't work at a auto plant, so I don't think we can say what was done is different, or how it was done. But the end results show that the process MUST be different.

Just like the paint on the rest of the car. 8 out of 10 times, the factory paint will done better than a paint shop. Why is there a difference? Don't know, it's just that way.

I was thinking of painting the side skirts too, but the guy at the shop said it'd crack sooner or later.

Are there OEM body kits for 94~97 Integra Coupes?

Ah hell, paint em yourself!

Get Duplicolor paint...........they make your exact color.
Clean the parts with some kind of paint cleaner/prep product.
Sand them with 400 grit paper just enough to roughen the surface.
Prime them with two coats.
Paint them with 3 or 4 coats.
Clear coat them with a couple of coats.

I did this 2 years ago and they look great! I even did my front lip. No peeling or cracking. Just take your time and wait long enough in-between coats. Email me and I will send you pics.
