Default Auto Starter with my Type S

Hi I just got my Acura RSX Type S 2005. The dealer offer me a good deal on the auto starter for the car. Should I have it installed in my car? I've heard that having and auto starter for a manual transmission is bad. What are your opions on this?

Should I get the alarm installed?

Will it cause and problems with my car in the future?

I understand that you gear has to be in neutral before using the auto starter feature. I just want to make sure if this is fine and how many of you have this installed in your Type S?

Thanks

it's not bad for your car but it always has to be in neutral. the autostart is not a OEM factory option though.

It's not an OEM Factory option? But the dealer is offering this option installed.

No I just purchased a new type S but they didn't have the alarm in stock so the dealer will have it installed next week.

...wtf?

the rsx comes with a stock alarm. an autostarter is not a factory option. it's illegal to install an autostarter on a manual car.

why would u the dealer tell you that!?!?!??! makes no sense.

I think it varies by the state.

Most places, all you have to do is sign a waiver.

If it is a aftermarket alarm then the car will not start in gear. My friends Viper will not start. You have to get the right one for your car.

As far as i know (and knew working in 2 shops myself)...it is illegal in all 50 states (because it is a DMV law, not a local or state law)...to install a "remote start" system on a car with a manual transmission. I know that country wide chains like Best Buy, Circuit City and Hi-Fi Buys (tweeter store)...they will NOT install remote start systems on manual transmission cars...and i know that NO local shops here in Georgia will, there is no waiver or anything, its a liability and a safety hazard.

I know for 100% fact that a Acura dealership would not LEGALLY install a remote start system on a manual transmission car, they very well may install an alarm system that INCLUDES remote start on your car but the remote start will not be used...

I had remote start installed in my Type R, and my Z, had to sign a waiver. (and of course, keep in neutral.)

Chances are the dealer is subing out the installation of an aftermarket remote starter. Not a great idea on a stick, but it can be done. I installed one on my 2000 civic ex and it worked perfect until the time I left it in gear. Car jumped foward, hit a pole in a parking lot and bye bye passenger side jdm headlight. Not to mention 1100 in body work. Bottom line don't do it, too risky.
