i got a d16y8 soon to be running 12 to 1 comp. was wondering what kind of cam to use? was also wondering if i needed to upgrade valvetrain, if so what should i get? these are probably dumb questions but im new to modding and didnt have any luck with the search. thanks

I believe, and if you can find it, I believe Jun makes a camshaft for your motor. There was a SOHC runnin around Salem Oregon with one and it was MEAN. You will for sure hafta upgrade the valvetrain, but if you can find the Jun cam, DO IT. Gude is big on the singles, but I have never been impressed with there product, Skun 2 also makes a camshaft for you.....good luck man

Go twin cam

 

I believe Jun only makes one "stage" of cam for the SOHC. If you were to do the Skunk, I would go with the stage 2, maybe stage 3 if you had headwork combined with a free flowing intake manifold and a good header, maybe a SMS or something like that. Just make sure you don't do the S2 valvetrain.....they are suppose to have there new "pro" line out, but they have not been tested yet, and the old S2 valvetrain was ****. Good luck man

what? are you saying y8 cams are better?

 

From testing I've seen they are prettty good compared to other aftermarket offerings.

 

could they handle the compression

 

If Randy reccommends something, go by it....swear by it.
