In riding both yesterday, I noticed some stuff.
-the 929 is by far my comfortable to ride
-the 929 has an awsome power range for the street where i find myself winding out my 600. not only is 929 power range nice for street but its smooth as hell; you don't notice how fast you are really going.
-the 600 obviously is more nimble but the difference is not as big as you would think.
-the 600 seat is a good deal higher than the 929 one which i found interesting.


all in all, the 929 is a very easy to ride machine for a larger cc bike; no big surprises or anything. while my 600 keeps me on my toes, the 929 is a very comfortable bike to just ride around on. i love em both!

Funny, that all makes sense to me.

Bikes have gotten a lot harder-edged lately, apparently. The seat-height thing did shock me a bit, though.

 

I remember when the 900rr first came out people were amazed at how small they were. I think that was the first super compact sport bike. Now there a bunch of sport bikes that size. When I first saw the newer zx10 in the flesh I was suprised. Photos dont really give you an idea.

 

It doesnt seem too bad until you take it to the twisties and brake the tires loose for the first time barely twisting the throttle and leaving a 8 foot long darkie hahaha Uhhh...no it didnt happen to me! The 929 is really low on power compared to the other open class bikes tho. I remember riding my first r1 in the twisties Very fun but definately a beast.

i got that impression too; i rode it almost as hard as i do with my 600 and it wasn't exactly a mind blowing experience. cool nonetheless.

 

That's why some people enjoy having a liter bike for the streets and a 600 for track use.

Isn't there an HT rule about offering test rides when you get a new bike??

Yeah. My family has a timeshare down in Escondido for one week out of the year. I figured I'd do a trip down to SD on my bike and check out some of the local roads.

just 15/44 gearing, revalve + .95kg springs, and not much else. i sold off the penske 2 clicker, damper and mint bodywork ever since i decided to learn how to ride the bike close to stock then upgrade later. its amazing how much your riding improves when you are not concerned about dumping it and ruining pretty plastics...

its not the bike but my riding skills. i've only been learning this twisty road thing since september or so; on and off at that.

.95 kg springs?! That's not too high?

 

From the specs, it looks like the difference in seat height between the 600RR and 929 are only a couple tenth's of an inch (32.3" vs 32.1"). I believe the width of the seat in the crotch area, along with the agressive angle of the bike, is what makes the 600RR "seem" taller. I had a 954 as well as a 600RR, and the 954 is by far a much more comfortable ride (on my wrist, back, and ***). If I'm just cruising around town, my bum starts hurt after 20 minutes on the 600RR. I can go all day on the 954 w/o one complaint.

Too bad someone stole my five-fizzle the other day!!!

BTW: The 929/954 definately feels underpowered in stock form. Sadly, many people have compared the power to the GSXR-750. But once you get it opened up with a nice exhaust and PC-III, it's a beast!!!

See, that kind of appeals to me. I dont have the desire to have a rediculous fast liter bike, but I eventually I will want something with more torque and power that still handles well. I think the 929/954 are very enticing bikes.

someday, i will take a 748 and punch it out to 853 or something to satisfy my appetite for tourqe.

my 600rr broke in my ***, i don't mind it anymore. the 929 is underpowered but still enjoyable to ride.

i did take a trip down one of my favorite twisty roads hidden away in rancho santa fe; the 929 is a bit more piggish than my 600. i can kamikazee divebomb into turns with my 600 where i had to work a bit more to get the 929 through the same roads which i could ride blindfolded. ALLMOTA, i'm sorry to hear about your 954 man, did you have full cover on it?

came like that and i do think its a bit high for my weight. i raised my rear preload a click and it was a world of difference. i can't wait to perfect the damn suspension one day.

I agree with that. You don't want something unmanageably fast, but you also don't want something high-strung that you have to row through the gears with, either.

Makes perfect sense to me. Maybe we should go buy Ducatis

 

Interesting topic. Have any of you guys ridden the 900RR as well? Any opinions on how it compares to the 929 and 954?

I felt the same way when comparing my R1 to my old R6.

The R1 is a little wider, which sits a little more natural for me, it doesn't feel like I have to hug the bike with my thighs as much.

And I totally agree with the comment on the power delivery! The R1 is much much smoother, and I can get the same pick-up at 3000 on the R1 as I did at 9000 on the R6. But it is true that you really have to watch the speedo, because it is EASY to look down and say "crap I'm going twice the limit!" without even knowing!

As for the handling aspect, the bike does "feel" heavier when walking it around, simply leaning it you can definately tell there is more weight to play with. However, this R1 has a full Ohlins suspension on it, and I can take the same onramps at the same speed and have the same lean on the R1 as I did the R6. Im sure a rider who knows how to really work these bikes can squeeze a little more out of the R6 in the twisties, but the R1 felt a lot more nuetral in the corners with the Ohlins.

Now i don't know what 750 you're talkin about, but my buddy just bought an 05 750 and i like that bike about 35x as much as our 1000rr. The 750 rides like a 600 but has way more power. I've got roughly 5k miles on the 1krr, and i only put like 40 on the 750, but that 750 was mindblowing. Maybe i underestimated the bike, but that ****** thing is quick.

The GSXR-750 is probably one of the best street bikes of all time! I was in no way putting it down. What I was saying is that the power of a 929/954 (Honda claims the 954 makes 150+ or so HP) feels more like something that would be labeled as "750 power," not liter bike material. That might be embarassing/disappointing if you're one of those MACHO LITER BIKE guys (but they usually ride GSXR 1000's ).
