Default Call me a squid...

...but I had to go out in a t-shirt and jeans today. I put my gloves on because I feel seriously naked without them, but I really was squidly.

And guess what? So was everyone else. I didn't see anyone sporting so much as a jacket, let along leather pants and knee pucks. Everyone was in their shirtsleeves.

I gave it a second thought, which mainly consisted of, "What would the guys on Honda-Tech say if they saw this?"

But once I got on the bike, I was glad I hadn't put anything on. It was really too hot, even to wear my Alter Ego stripped all the way down. I started sweating even with minimal clothing on.

I know, I know...I'm asking for it. Well one thing I won't be asking for is sympathy if I shear my skin off in a wreck.

hAHAHA.... when I 1st started to surf the H-T forum, everyone was calling everyone squids and I was like, in reality, on a hot summer day, I see more guys w/a T-Shirt on than guys w/jackets.. and around here in Huntington Beach, New Port Beach, Seal Beach area.. you'd see at least 100 bikes a day. Anyways.. I don't call anyone squids on here 'cause I wouldn't say that to anyone face to face. Do as you please.. but if you're someone I care about, I'd hope you did wear at least a summer jacket. During summer, I'm 1/2 t-shirt and 1/2 summer jacket.

i always wear at least a jacket no matter how hot it is. i'd rather be hot when sitting at a light than deal with massive bugs and **** kicked up by other cars nailing me. it really looks like someone unloaded on my jacket with a paintball gun after the 329038 million butterflys that were everywhere a couple days ago...

Ok. SQUID!

I can't say anything. I rode to work yesterday in dress slacks with my tie flapping in the wind.

I appreciate your concern, sir.

However, the alternative to gear is not road rash.

If I'm not wearing tons of gear, I try to relax a bit and be more careful than I do with gear.

Same here. The online name-calling is stupid. Just a way for a bunch of nerds to call other people out.

The community of motorcycling is made up of so many more people than just the guys on the internet. That's the only place I've ever heard bitching about other people's gear or lack thereof.

If it gets *really* hot, having a jacket on can actually keep you cooler than wearing just a t-shirt. I remember riding once on a 110+ degree day with just a tshirt on. All the wind does is blow the sweat-cooled air away from your skin before it has a chance to hang around and lower your temperature.

I'm not talking about 85 degree days here though.

Sweat doesnt cool off your body, the sweat evaporating pulls the heat out of your body. Thats the reason very humid places can be dangerous because you can sweat like crazy but its so humid the sweat doesnt go anywhere so you just get hotter and hotter. Thats why they always say its not the heat that gets you its the humidity.

Anyhow, I always wear my jacket if I'm going anywhere kinda far but I have just gone in a tshirt and jeans to the bank or store thats two or three miles away. Its just a personally risk. We all know what can happen, its just a chance you take anytime you hop on two wheels.

Whenever I go riding I hear it all the time. Most of the guys in full gear will refuse to ride with someone in tee shirt and jeans and tell people in jacket/jeans that they should invest in some pants. But I usually don't just ride around town, I head out to spots that people go to ride fast so people there are a bit more safety oriented then someone that's going for a 10 mile around town ride.

<--- who has yet to try riding in a tee shirt

Around town rides are completely different then the twisties though and I can understand peoples lack of motivation to leather up when they are just heading to the store or something.

I rode like once or twice with a t-shirt, but I don't plan on ever doing it again.

funny ****, i was just about to post the same thing....i was riding home from work geared up (textile jackets/gloves) thinking "DAMN its hot as **** outside and its 5:30!"

when i got home and took my jacket off & my dress shirt was soaked wet t-shirt contest style. i left the jacket/gloves at home while i cruised to grab some grubbage....MAN do you feel naked as ****! the most vulnerable i've felt in a while........its weird too cuz when i first got my bike i NEVER wore gear cuz i didn't have any..it was ALWAYS jeans/t-shirt. since i've become wiser i never leave it home. really makes you appreciate it when you have it i have to admit tho, i didnt ride hard at all, and never even thought twice about trying to 1-wheel it anywhere

BTW, its a textile with the liner OUT and it was still hot as hell

When I first started riding, i wouldn't dare ride without at least a jacket with armor or a leather jacket. Then one summer day i decided to go squid and just wear a t-shirt. My goodness it felt so comfortable and free to ride. I'd say 95% of the time i wear my jrocket jacket. If I do just wear a t-shirt, it's only to go to the corner store or what not. I always get reminded by graphic pictures to wear the right gear. Hey it's hot where i live sometimes! I put my bike away in the summer just like you guys put your bike away in the winter.

Hey Ross.. take a look at the Dainese HC-88. I took it for a spin a couple of times and it's real comfortable and ventilates very well. Also, I purchased the optional CE armour and back protector for it. I couldn't ask for better protection in such a well ventilated jacket. IMO, even perforated leather get's too hot during summer. I used to use a Joe Rocket Phoenix but that **** is absolute garbage after seeing the HC-88. I kicked myself in the *** for unnecessary risking it by riding w/the pos JR's. On the waist of the JR, it's so loose that it'd probably ride up my back in the event of a slide and I'd end up with road rash all along my back.

I wont invite people to ride with me if they dont have gear. Its just asking for trouble. On those hot days under armour is great. I have the long sleeve turf gear and its great. When it starts to get really hot I wet my hands and put the water on my shirt since Im not much of a perfuse sweater haha. It makes getting your leathers off really easy too.
