Default Fastline perfromace oil baffles, any good??

hello,

anyone tried these with success, im a bit worried about the amount of oil it allows back into the lower part of the sump. it looks very good at keeping it in.

I have been curious myself. I know it is the cheap way to make the Mugen version of the OEM oilpan.

I have been curious b/c on the track(auto-x/roadrace) can't the oil move to one side and allow teh pump to starve. I thought this was the reason for this piece; so it prevents that.

Well, when the pan is full, there is more than enough oil to fill the sump. Even with baffles installed, it is important to realize that there is more in that than just in the bottom. Also, the pickup is at the very floor of the pan. And as quickly as oil is sucked up into the engine, it is deposited back into the pan at an equal rate. When the oil goes back into the pan, it is not being deposited in one spot far over in the shallow end of the pan, it dumps all over the place, much of the oil even falls directly into the opening of the sump!

Also, consider how quickly and easily oil moves around and fills the pan....maybe you have spilled oil before and noticed is moves kinda slow because it is viscous. When it is in the engine though, in a racing condition like weare talking about, the oil is hot. HOT OIL FLOWS ALMOST LIKE WATER! It flows fast and fills the sump quickly!

In order for your engine to starve, way more than half the oil would have to be missing from the sump. I am not sure how much oil the engine actually uses at one time, but I doubt if it is more than 2 quarts. I am hard pressed to think that you would have a problem under any conditions, excecpt if you actualy were low on oil! Running out of oil by leaking or burning could hardly be the fault of the oil pan baffles!

yeah , while simultaneously preventing fast drainback WHEN the oil gets on top of the baffles.

Hence the reason I dont run fixed baffles on anything RR/AX related.

someone did it , others copied it. thats the cycle.

its also much easier than engineering a trapdoor setup like I did.

How much to do one of those setups?

What are the benefits?

I charged 125 if you sent me your pan.

the advantage is fast drainback AND fore/aft baffling.

Looks really nice! Costs a lot more than $80 that I charge, but is debatably better.

The only arguement I have heard agains trap door designs is the possibility of smashing the pan and jamming the doors, thus drasitcally restricting flow to the pickup.

Yeah, or running over something......not saying it would happen and that the pan is a bad idea.....just that it can happen, and I am sure it has happened in the past....
