Default i have a timing belt question please help

i have been hearing this damn noise comeing from the motor i was told it was the valves they need to be adjusted but i start lookin at the cam gears (skunk2 gears the cover is cut out) while the motor is running i look at the timing belt with my light and the belt runs straight u cant see the teeth but i let the motor warm up and play with the throtle as the rpms go down i can see the teeth of the belt and the belt moves up and down just a little while it does that you hear that damn knocking sound and it doesnt do this everytime just to many times that its pissing me off so only thing i can think of is can it be my timing belt tentioner or something else im open to any suggestions
