Default replacement auto tranny's (TOPEND motorsports)

I was/am looking into buying a used 5th gen, I searched here and found all the articles relating to the problem of the auto tranny in 5th gen ludes. Then I came across the website TOPEND motorsports and found they sell replacement auto tranny's for around $700, I assume this is a good deal due to the previous posts referencing the cost of repair and or purchasing a new one, my question is... is this place reputable, has anyone conducted business with them? they dont warranty the trannys and their diagnosis is based on smell and visual inspection, not what I would call thorough by any means. SO has anyone purchased a JDM auto tranny from a shop, if so please post the shop and info(cost, quality...). I dont want to be BBQ'ed for this thread I am looking for a used 5 speed 5th gen lude but all the ones I've seen sport 130,000+ mileage.

Convert an auto one to manual. Auto sucks, period.

stop being a pansy and learn to drive a manual. automatic 4cyl car is one dumb oxymoron. just think if you do get a manual then you won't have to worry about a known problem and how you can fix it.

i would be careful what you are buying and definaltley buy one that has been fully inspected and is in very good working order... as for topend motorsports if they are inspecting trannys by looks and smell then prolly dont buy it... just search for a god reputable site selling good jdm or usdm trannys with a low amount of miles...

The mileage that nearly all JDM suppliers give is just an estimate/(lie). The only way to gauge the true mileage is the odo on a front clip. And that can be changed easily.

Anyway good luck finding a good tranny

I would only trust a remanufactured SS tranny from Howard Engineering.

I second Sharkcohen on Howard Enigneering.
Many of us have the SS and love it. Then again my car (FOR SALE) is a 1 owner one. You are right about cars with high mileage and that can tell you something about how they have been cared for too.
Do yourself a favor and look for a 1 owner car with the complete service history. If you need a new tranny and are searching for one-then go with a Honda approved (Howard or Honda) rebuild with a warranty. The difference in cost is worth it compared to some shop that checks by looking at the outside and smelling the fluid. True, burned fluid has a distinct odor and color. There are reputable importers-but they cannot absolutely guarantee the parts as noted above.
Good luck
