some suspension advice please (tokico?)
Hi guys,
I used the search function and wasnt able to dig up too much info. Heres my situation. I just bought a 95 accord EX coupe. It has tokico adj struts and skunk springs. Unfrotunatly the front springs are shot and compressed so the ride hight is still really low (even after raising it back up). On top of that the front struts are blown.
So I was going to replace the springs all around and the two front struts. But I'm having trouble figuring out which to go with. I would idealy like to buy tokico HP's or illumina's since they are so cheap but I've heard that they dont do well with lowering springs?
The two springs i'm looking at are the H&R OE's or sport springs. I would like the look of the lowered car but not at the expense of blowing the struts. I will not be racing or driving crazzy at all. I really like to look of lowered cars but wont be driving it hard. Will I be ok with the sport springs and illumina's up front? How long would they be expected to last with that ~1.5" lower the H&R springs would create? Or would it be safer to just use the OE's and forget the lower? Sorry for the long post and thanks for any help in advance.

Just for the mild drop the OE springs offer, and even the sport I would go with plain Tokico or KYB struts. You don't need adjustable for that.
Also, I would recomend the sports..I think you'll be dissappointed with the drop given by the H&R OE or Eibach Prokit, both are very mild.

I'll probably go with the sport springs all around and HP blues on the front then. I have 17" racing hart wheels with Kumho tires. He had adjustable coilovers on it but the front is really slammed right now since the springs are bad. But I dont want the tires to rub or anything. Since it is really low right not I think that the new springs will actually raise it in the front a bit
. He had the coilovers as low as they would go (guessing maybe a 3" drop?).
The only reason I was worried about the sport springs is cause they might cause the struts to blow sooner. Since I'll likely be selling the car in 3 or so years I just want something that'll hold up for standard daily driving.

I just had a few more quick questions. I just got off the phone with the mechanic and he said that along with the new struts I may need upper strut mounts and bump stops. He said the current struts dont have any bump stops on them! My questions are, Do the tokico HP's come with bump stops and strut mounts by chance? If not were can i buy those parts? Are the mounts universal or do I need strut specific mounts etc.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help! I just ordered two new front struts and the H&R sport springs. Hopefully I wont need to replace the strut mounts or anything.
Another thing I'm slighly confused with is the alignment. The sticky thread says wait 2 weeks for the sprigns to settle but i've seen others say get the alignment done ASAP. Which is the best way to go?

that makes sense, if the springs are new and never mounted, which they will be.
personally, i'm not sure the tokico blues will be up to the task of "smooth riding." Even though you don't need the adjustibility, you might want to look into the KYB AGX, Illumina, or Koni Yellow.
Though, a mild drop and soft spring rates might be suitable for use with the blues, it's just that i've heard alot of negative things about that particular shock, and have experienced them firsthand as a passenger. I wasn't impressed...

Well They struts on the car now are Tokico blues. I'm pushing my budget as is with the new springs etc. The parts were $350 and the installation is gonna be close to $360 :/. They gotta be smoother than whats on the car now. Since the front struts are blown and the springs are pretty much shot. I think its a safe bet that the only place I can go is up in terms of ride comfort :D. Anyway I placed the order earlier today and the stuff is arriving tomorrow.
Hopefully the springs and struts will last at least two years. Since I wont be doing any racing or crazzy driving I'm guessing they will last but you never know.

well I'm still trying to decide. I havent done anything more than change the windshield wipers on my car lol. I just dont know how difficult it really is. I would feel more comfortable if i had gone through the mechanic courses before I start replacing stuff. So for this time around I think i'll just have the mechanic do it. But in the future I'm thinking I should be able to do the repairs myself.

hey, if youre working and dont available weekends to do whatever else youd rather do, then fine, pay someone. but for $360, you could buy a lot of tools and do it yourself if you had the time.
Well I've got plenty free time. Its just I dont know that I would be able to do the suspension and do it correctly. I do a lot of work with speaker and computer/repairs so I'm not a total klutz when it comes to building /repairings stuff. I just dont wanna do something wrong and break my car or myself
