Default Helmet Visors

I'm going to buy a tinted visor for my HJC and these are my choices; Mirrored Blue, Mirrored Rainbow, Mirrored Silver, Mirrored Gold, Green, Pink, Smoke, & Dark Smoke. Since I have no experience with different visors, what kind of visor do you use? I don't really care about looks, just all arround visibility. I rode my bike to and from work today blinded by the sun. TIA.

I use a "gold mirrored" visor on my Shoei. It works really good during the day time but I wouldnt reccomend it for riding at nite. (duh) What it doesnt work as good as is a nice pair of sun glasses worn under your clear visor...

Any tint would be bad for night.
i have ablue mirror on my Icon helmet. Its great for day riding and sucks at night. takes like 45 seconds to change though.

That was my original intention, but I tried on every pair of sunglasses at our local surf shop, and not a single pair looked decent. I don't want this to become a sunglasses discussion though.

go buy a pair of 99c safety glasses from home depot and keep them in your trunk / glovebox / whatever you bike has for storage. ride your tinted one in the day, and if you get caught out at nite, put the clear shades on, and keep the visor up. if its decent weather out it is actually pretty refreshing. i personally have a 'backup' helmet (for passengers) that has clear that i take out when i go out at nite, and i use my mirrored in the day and shades in the box just in case... hth.

Why not get one of those "visor socks" that you can tuck underneath your arm, against your ribs? Or, throw the clear shield into a backpack. I did that for a long road trip once, in case the visor cracked.

FWIW, I had an HJC once, and a variety of tinted shields, and they were always a b!tch to put on! I broke a few shield clips trying to swap 'em...

Going from Daytime to night riding isn't really a concern for me. I'm just looking for feedback as to which color or tint had the best visibility but still kept the sun from blinding you. Maybe I didn't word my question right.

I looked at seriously buying a new shield or two for sunny days but opted for the sunglasses. Try something other than a surf shop maybe? Everyone I talked to said anything other than clear shield is a serious bitch at night and not recommended. Sunglasses have the added benefit of allowing you to ride shield up if you like. Works well on hotter days or when you're fogging the shield.

It's kinda an obvious answer... obviously the greater the light transmission (lighter colors) have better visibility. Go to your local shop, put them in front of your eyes and look at a window. I think it's more of a matter of preference really.

Ahh, my bad. I must've read someone else's response then got all mixed up. Dark tinted shields are my fav, since all my iridium ones are scratched from bugs and rocks. Plus, the non-iridium ones are cheaper.

i ride with the blue tinted HJC visor... It does help with the glare and intensity of the sun. pretty much from my experience all the tinted visors seem to look the same to me, the only difference is the color that it reflects.

I have dark smoke. I LOVE it during the day, really, really helps. At night its kinda bad, but not THAT bad. Ill wear my spare lid with clear visor if were doing any kind of real night riding. But I live in a city so all the streets are well lit, etc, so the tint doesnt bother me too much.
