Well, I'm going to be waiting a while for the new cams and needed to change the valvetrain out. When I had the valves out, I noticed the bowls have rather large lips. Here is a picture.

I'm not a headporting expert or anything. In fact, I have NEVER done this before. I cleaned up the bowls some using a 120 grit disc. Might look like *** to some, thats ok. I'm open to any and all comments. Its my first shot at it. Can't learn without ever trying.

I have not polished the ports at all yet. I don't know if I am going to or not. Was going to see what some of the "experts" out there with more experience in head porting had to say. I didn't want to remove a large chunk of material because I have heard that will actually harm flow. My goal was to clean up the casting and remove the large lip on the side and smooth the port out. I'm pretty happy with my results so far, but being new to this, I could just not know what the hell I am looking at and have destroyed my head.

Thanks.

Yeah, I already cleaned up the port openings and even polished them some. I don't know really if the "bling bling" look will help much. I think its more or less done to make things look good if you know what I mean.

Thats the thing. This is my personal head that I must use. This isn't something I can practice on if you will I kinda dove right in with the attitude that the worse case would leave me with no head. I plan to run this head though along with some M22 cams. I put down 180whp with no headwork before on Skunk2 Stage ones. I *HOPE* to see 200whp if not more off this work and new cams.

Did you use a dremel or the rotozip? both tools came up when i searched for that 120 grit disk

I did my intake manifold awhile back, with a dremel and like a big sander tip, it didnt cut away the metal but just grinded it down, and it took forever

and then i used some wierd metal brush on it to polish it out,

Turned out pretty decent in the end tho

That was done with a Dremel. Not the correct tool to use for the job I need to note... But I wanted to take a hand at the work and see what I could do. If the results came out good, I planned to invest in the correct materials to do the job and starting doing more heads for people. The dyno will be the only way to really tell if this worked or not for me. I don't own a flow bench, wish I did.

you can only do so much with a dremel tho..

you need like a 5' tip so you can get down in the small areas

This is true.. But I was able to do almost all the port with no trouble using my current setup. Its not the greatest, like I said... This is the first one, if it turns out good, the proper tools will show up.

Alright. I polished the bowls a little on the #1 chamber. Its not mirror finished or anything, just smoothed out a bit more then the standard finish you get with a 120 grit disc.

I already did the port openings too. This picture turned out a little crappy. Its not quite as bad as it looks. Feels smooth and even. The pics show some crap in the port though so it looks bad imo..

I think you want the intake side ruff for better atomization and the exhaust side polished, but thats just what I have been told!

The camera is rather mis leading. The flash hits and makes it look all nice any shiny. Its not THAT polished at all. I mainly "polished" the bowl to remove a few of the rough edges left from sanding, thats all. I'm not trying to get a mirro finish, just smoother then stock with no burrs, if you know what I mean. I think it will be ok, but the dyno will tell.
