Default Autozone Balljoints ok?

Just got off the phone with http://www.Hondaautomotiveparts.com and got quoted on balljoints for the prelude (4th Gen 4WS) fronts are like 200+ each side lower. Autozone has them for bout 65, Anyone running autozone balljoints? It's gonna cost like 1g to do all the balljoints on this car. *Sigh* TIA

That honda price is probably for the entire knuckle assembly ? Just a hunch, but it's the same thing for the uppers - honda sells balljoints with the control arm.

Honda does not sell lower ball-joints for the prelude seperately. You have to buy the whole knuckle (I know as I just had one replaced).

200 is about right for the whole knuckle.

Now the question is.... Can they be pressed out? or do you have to replace the whole knuckle? I bet no, as honda lets you buy the bj for an integra, etc.... but not the prelude. I bet there is a reason.

fyi- remember, if your gonna replace the knuckle you should replace the wheel bearing too, as if you try to re-use the old one it will fall apart shortly.

Great info ppl, thanks. I'm just confused cuz autozone has the lower balljoints listed seperatly.

It's just costing so much for this and the car is undrivable. Needs new balljoints, bushings and suspension.

Looks like they can be pressed out - do a search in prelude archives for lower ball joint.
User petrv also mentioned some acura legend balljoints are interchangeable - you can buy them, yet still would need to press them out. Do the search, I saw some ghetto ways to get the joints out and in - and you could also take the balljoints to honda along with the knuckle and/or control arm and have them do the removal and install.

Autozone loans out the press and all you need is a big socket to fit over the old balljoint and start hammering away. oh, take out the c-clip first.
