Question about key and programming Accord '03
I have an accord '03 and I have a key that needs to be programmed to the car but I have programmed the alarm. So my question is can I get the key to start the car on my own or do I need to go to the dealership for them to program the key to start the ignition? Do I really need a special software to do this like they say?
I'm gonna bump this because I have a similar issue.
I'm looking at an 03 EX that someone is selling. The car has a dead battery and the owner claims that the key will not start the car until it is programmed at the dealer.
So do I actually have to take it to the dealer, or is there some way for me to get the key going? Also, if I will have to take it to the dealer, all they will need is the VIN and the key, right? Or will they require some proof of ownership? I'd rather not buy this car until I start it up.
Any suggestions? Thanks guys!

They need the whole car, they have to program the pcm to recognize the key.
