Battle at 10,000 (I won?)
Here goes the story...I was showing a buddy from work Vtec and I rung out 3rd and since my syncros suck in 4th I just apply a lil pressure on the shifter till the gears line up and it slides in. Well it slid in...what I thought was 4th and come to find out it was 2nd.
I let the clutch out in somewhat of a quick manner, not like banging gears or anything and my head flew forward the whole time watching my tach bury itself somewhere in my dash. Slammed the clutch pedal down as fast as I could, then checked my VAFC and it read 9998 ( lil upset it didnt read 9999) but I thought oh ****. Since the clutch was in I looked to see how I was idling and it was fine, I had a huge sigh of relief.
Motor - 1st Gen B16, stock bottom end, ITR valve train with CTR cams. Adj. cam gears are at +2in and -1 ex.
Did a compression check 2 days after the Rev incident numbers went 1- 180 2- 185 3-195 4- 195. Also did an oil change and trany fluid and every thing looked good.
Im just wondering on how the hell the motor held together and I didnt have to tow it home
I have counted my blessings though.

I took a pic of my VAFC with my friends phone but he cant figure out how to E-mail me the pic...I want it for my new avatar.

just pull off your valvecover and recheck all your keepers especially the exh side, make sure tthey'r enot halfway popped out ... sometimes the engine wont blow right then and there its go while at idle a few days later or while cruising ont he highway at low rpm.

Also, Honda tachs are waaaay off. A VAFC is alot more accurate, i understand the poster here has one, so this isnt directed at him but ive seen alot of "10k rpm" posts with videos, and its more likely to be around 9500rpm or even less with the way honda's tach's are./
his altitude shouldnt be that high being that his location is Palm beach gardens,FL . I can verify his vafc read 9998. Pretty sick. It was funny he just got out of his car and laid on the parking lot with his hands covering his eyes after it happened. His "buddy" reportedly had no idea what was going on when it happened and was very content throughout the whole experience

PTizzle in the house (Delsolio96) Everyone convince this kid to get a C5 and pay me 600 to swap it for him. 600 bucks is cheap and I can get some good deals on the goodies that go along with the swap!
Im still tryin to get the pic sent from my boys phone to me. I want to show it off! johnzm...Im jelous, wish mine said 9999. Bah

For an internally stock B16? No, not at all. Thats normal.

That's happened to me more than a few times.
Most of the time I'm going from first to second, and let te clutch out too early.
Since my Skunk2 chipped ECU's rev limiter doesn't seem to function, I garuntee I've seen at least 10,500 or 11,000 a few times.
*knocks on wood* Thank God for Skunk2 valvetrain!

Yeah, that crap is great. There a post on here about how somones skunk2 valvetrain broke on them. Sad thing is its like the 10th story about that awesome valvetrain I have read.

The compression #'s seem a little low for a b16, my b18a read an average of 195 across the board with 170,xxx miles on the clock. Im sure that that b16's comp. should be higher.
Damn you got lucky, that ITR v/t saved you. Next time just slam it in.

I just don't know why everyone seems to think that numbers mean everything? Its about consistency. You also need to understand that different gauges will have different readings. Its like trying to compare two dyno to each other that were done in completely different conditions.
Also, do you have ANY idea how much carbon you could have built up in 170,000 miles? You know that will effect numbers also right? Ok. Now drop the "my numbers are higher his engine sucks" arguement.s

I claim that i am faster because of that carbon build-up. And my ls was better!
I understand about the whole guage read-differences, your right they can vary.
moral of the story... learn your gears

Glad to hear you didn't blow your motor.
I use to take my 99 si up to 10k all the time, I loved it. Granted I had a Toda valve train with some spec Bs but it is probably the best feeling besides sex
