"Things on two wheels just tend to fall over easily"
Welcome to the pictoral tour of why I hate grad students that get in my way.

The Tire is straight in that last pic. ****.
Thanks to Joe Rocket, no blood was shed.

Any ideas on the cost of fixing the forks?
****.

Yeah, it's probably the triple clamp, I didn't even think of that, I'm still too pissed to think straight. I hit hard on the right side bar end.
(Damage to the mangled brake lever and gouged bar end not shown, I forgot to get a picture of that)

Ouch!~!
EDIT: How long were you sliding to get a hole your glove like that? And what are the palms made of?

It's weird, I only slid for a few feet (2 or 3), there was more tumbling than sliding I think.
The palms are Pittards leather and suede. Joe Rocket Novas.
Keep in mind though, these gloves have seen their days, this is just the first hole in the palms.

Joe Rocket somethingorrather, a line they don't make anymore I think. Good investment, I wouldn't have skin on my knee right now without them.
20-25ish. Nothing too fast. The bike went down hard, I faired better.

Similar to when I went down on my 250 but I came out with less damage on the mid fairing and nothing on the tail. Did you lock up the front wheel?
Glad you came out of it ok and aren't you happy it wasn't a $9000 bike instead?

No, I was coming out of a turn, and she just went. The front tire did go first however.
It is nice that it wasn't a 9k bike, but it's also the only bike I have, my primary mode of transportation, and going to cost more than I have to fix. But I can do the body work myself, I'm just worried about that front end. Real worried.
What I'm really very, very angry about is that the grad student that blocked my line (walking down the middle of the ******* road, 4 feet from a sidewalk) saw me go down, 5 feet away, looked for about 10 seconds, and just turned and walked away as I was picking my *** off the concrete.
No "Are you ok" or anything, just kept on ******* going.

They look like textile, are they? Do they have extra protection in the knees? Sorry for all the questions, it's just that I've been considering textile pants and have had to nagging feeling that I'd be wasting my money.

No problem on the questions.
Yes, they're textile. They're actually rain pants, I think (I traded some guy a broken dorm fridge for them). They don't have padding in the knees, but they're double layered through-out, with heavy zippers and snaps at the boots
They feel a little better than thick blue jeans, but they're A LOT better than the khakis I was wearing for most of the day. I actually just changed into them an hour before I went down, just on a whim.
Not a bad deal for a broken fridge that I didn't need fixed, but I don't know how much they would cost new.

damn man, i know how that feels, sucks to go down... i know that - good luck with the repairs and good to hear your ok..
f'ed up that the kid didn't do anything

yeah i think the forks are just twisted..nothing bent. should be able to loosen the triple clamp bolts, straighten, then re-tighten.
Yeah, I think I over-reacted earlier in thinking they were bent. I got out and looked at it a little while ago, and it would seem that they are just twisted.
Scratches build character. Just straighten out the front end, make sure the front wheel is still in balance, get a new rear brake lever and get her back on the road. Honestly I would probably have someone check the front end alignment on it to make sure that nothing is bent out of alignment (forks or steering head) Especially if it is an aluminum frame.
Good luck bro.
Good luck bro.
Glad to hear you're ok. That grad student is a dick for not helping out. If I saw someone go down on a bike my immediate action would be to rush over there and check if the person was alright.
