Anyone have probs. with rust around the trunk keyhole? (*Pic*)
I've noticed that my trunk is starting to rust around the keyhole on my '97. I'd like to stop it before it gets worse, but I don't have a lot of money to throw around for bodywork. Any guesses on how much it would cost to get fixed? Is there a quick fix to keep it from getting worse?

Looks like someone doesn't know how to use a keyhole very well. Put rust stopper on it and it'll stop the rust, duh.

i'd use some rust bullet on it then paint over it w/ touch up. rust bullet will pretty much stop the rust from spreading.
i'd take off the door panel and try to see how bad it is in the inside also. this way, you can use rust bullet on both sides.
i used rust bullet on my sunroof because of slight rust and painted over it with touch up. it has been almost one year and the rust has stopped from what i can see.

Thanks for the reply. To the rest of you... I've only had the car for around 6 months and the previous owner did the damage, so please don't lecture me on how to use a keyhole.

If you just want to prevent it from rusting further, try nail polish. Iv'e used clear nail polish everytime I've had to do little touch ups like that, and it always works great for me.

I might just try that.. I wasn't sure if it would continue to spread if the rust wasn't completely taken out, but I guess I was wrong.

I'm not sure if nail polish will stop the rust...if it does, then that's great news..but products like rust bullet have been developed to counter and stop rust.
invest in helms manual, remove the delinquent body panel and treat the area correctly dont just cover it. rust moves beneath paint, just cuz you dont see it doesnt mean its not there. the guy you bought that from has had that panel redone, OEM honda body panels dont rust like that(except civic quarters but your keyhole isnt near a wheel) oh and the guy who owned that car was blind (LMAO at the number of scratches around that keyhole, looks like a mistreated h00kers tw@t.

LMAO
Anyway, I popped the lock out last night and did some light sanding with some 1000 grit sandpaper to get rid of the rust on the inside of the hole. It's all gone now except for the slight bubble you can see in the picture. I might try some of that rustbullet that shl76 mentioned and then I'll seal it all up with some new paint/clearcoat. Hopefully that will get my keyhole back to virgin status.
