Has anyone ever put an H22/H23 into an 88-91 Civic/CRX?
ive never heard of someone swaping an H22 into a 4g civic. i can only imagine the fabrication that is needed. and once you get it installed, youre gonna have nothing but traction problems. a built b18c5 can be just as fast.
you have probably heard of L' Natural right? Jeremy Lookofsky? Fastest All Motor Honda? It has been done, but, cutting and rearranging will be a big part of the project. i think Mark Brauning did it too.

I'm not afraid of trying it, I'd just like to know someone that's done it before so i can get an idea.
i haveseen this done....major fabrication
required modifying firewall with 10lb sledgehammer
barely fits...had to run shifter cables through firewall and fabricate a way to mount clutch master cylinder
axles custom made and close fit to frame
not to mention huge dent in hood to clear valve cover
forget about ac and get ready to manlipulate a smaller radiator in ther to clear the header...bolt in kit??? no way...only H22 kit is for newer civics not 88-91
i will say one thing though....damn quick car
i have seen this car run low 13 on street tires mounted on VX (13") wheels

Got any pics? I'd like to get an idea of what I'm up against. I have no problem fabricating mounts, axles, etc.. I just don't want to end up with something that's so unpractical I hate to drive it. I don't want anything race, just a stock engine in an otherwise stock car. Just to say I did, I guess. I've done everything else to the 88-91s, why not this.
a guy on here from team alpha here in nj did it in a hatch and sold it he said it was streetable i forget his name on ht but mugenef7 may know it since hes in the same club
OMG why would you want to?
look and the costs of buying, fabbing and installing a H series engine into a EF and then look at the cost of a B series. and look at the power gains. H22 is not any better than a B20/vtec. and building one is a lot cheaper.

theres a few h series hybrids around here..
ones a 92 Cx and it has a h23 with i/e and it ran high 13's with full interior and street tires.
the other 92 hatch has a mildly built h22 custom gears and gutted with slicks and runs deep into the 12's.
which is our states fastest street legal n/a honda..
i have never seen a h22 or h23 in a 4th gen personally..but it would be awesome if you did it properly.

warren of midnight performance in sacramento had one in his black hatch...it was quite nice actually. he welded in the mounts and all, and i forgot how he explained how he fit everything else in...but it fit pretty well. he had the jdm front end on, and it looked like the motor would also clear the usdm hood from the way he mounted the motor. the only thing i remember was that he had to use a lawnmower battery in order to fit the battery up front...other than the battery, it looked pretty clean and stock-ish
I'm almost convinced to try it, the motor in my 89 dx is almost shot and i'm trying to decide what to do, but it's definitely gonna be B20 or H22.
I did a search but all I did was come up with arguments for or against it, no pics or solid evidence of how difficult it is, nor pics of successful installs.
i know a guy with an h22 in his 4gen as a (very bad) daily driver...need i say that his car is extremely fast? high 12's all day with intake, exhaust, springs, and headers......there is a bit of mods that need to be done, but it is very possible...i would contact J Lookofsky from L'Natural, or any of the number of shops in Southern California for tech support...also, HASport and Place Racing for a mounting kit...good luck
this past october at sema i asked at the hasport booth about mount kits for the h22 on a crx/civic 4th gen, they said that it was going to be out prety soon for the low price of $1,500.
$1,500 for motor mounts is ridiculous, i would go with a b20vtec

Hasnt warren done a couple of h22 Crxs before...i think he parted out the first one which was full race...thats what i heard and seen from pictures...yea i also seen the second one...and boy did that thing look no where close to stock-ish...the damn thing looked full race also...u can seel the crazy *** welds on the mounts from what i remember...
