this is going to be my 3rd season in SCCA Midwest. i was using the koni yellow and GC set up but now i want to go tein. i drive a 4th gen Si.
so my questions are:
for those that use tein what are set ups?
what tein product is best for my use?
whats the purpose of a pillowball uppermount?
what spring rate should i use or consider?

I had Tein 16 way adjustable soil overs on my lude. It was amazing.. untill i had to keep paying for alighnments and corner balence. If you can afford the maintence, go for it... Its a nice setup.
No offence but you cant compare SS springs to a full coilover setup for roadracing. I know your springs must be the ub3r 1337 h4x0rz, but comon now.

I am considdering a Tein Flex setup for my 5th gen. After the initial setup, am I going to have to do a lot of maintenence to keep my car going straight? (barring pot-holes of course)

WHY IN THE WORLD would you want to move from a state side customizable setup (GC/Koni) to an offshore fairly rigid (hard to source parts) setup in the Tein's? Especially since you're touting that you're a part of SCCA. Get your Koni's rebuilt, and a new spring rate from Eibach ERS. There's no reason to downgrade to the Tein's.

I have this setup and it handles well, no problems. But it is my first set of coilovers so I don't have much to compare them to. The TEIN SS on my 5th gen lude feel more than adequate for daily driving.

Fact: Koni has a much better shock than Tein. If you disbelieve this, go look at some shock dynos.
Fact: Eibach ERS springs are some of the best in the world and you can get order them and receive in a week or trade them openly here. Most of the rates someone's arleady tried and they're willing to trade springs straight up.
Fact: Tein straight line springs have a 2-3 months waiting period to get new. They are 70mm ID and no other systems use it. Only source for springs, Tein.
There's zero politics in that. If you think the Tein SS is going to be a better way
and enjoy having a sloopier handling car. Personally the money (Oh, and BTW I'm on Tein HA's if you want to further push this away from politics) is better spent getting the Koni's relvaved to SPSS3 and possibly DA's and getting another set of springs for the GC's. Going Tein (ONLY the Flex is any good now) is not going to help your times other than allowing slightly higher spring rates. Oh, and if you ever see snow, apply marine grease all over your exposed metal. Or else you'll see it rusting within one winter season.

They're good coilovers for the price. The rust thing sucks, although I haven't experienced any rust with mine. I've had my SS for 2 years now. Most people wouldn't like the way my car rides, but I love it. I'm a satisified Tein customer.
