Buying a CRX for project.
Hello everyone my name is Kuz. I have been around the dsm world for awhile. I converted over my 97 gst spyder to AWD. Now its time for a side project. I have found a 89 1.5L CRX 5spd. I feel in love with the car. It needs an alt, brakes and new pulleys. Along with minor rot in the rear quater i think its a good deal for the price. I have been doing some homework and i really like the idea of a ls/vtec motor with a turbo of course. I was also toying with the idea of trying to build the 1.5L and turbo it seeing i doubt many people would. This is not going to be a street car its going going to be insured, inspected or registered strictly track. Please give me some ideas. I would love to make the 1.5 good even if that ment bore, stroke, sleeve etc. But i am preparing to do the ls/vtec. since that well makes more sence. Also if there are more bolt on engines for the crx please tell me. Im going to do more homework now. Thank you
if your on a budget, a cheap d16 turbo setup can make good power, and you can get those engines in perfect shape (anything from a 88 to 2000 model year all bolts up the same)
and they are cheap. i've bought several perfect d16a6 (88-91 si engine) for less than 100 bucks.
one i bought for 75 bucks is in my car right now, with a custom turbo setup, making 185whp and 155 wtq at only 6psi.
its a lot of power in a car that weighs right around 2000 pounds without a driver (2020 last time a weighed it)
or, you can always boost an LS engine itself, and make around 300 whp with proper tuning (or a lot more with a forged rotating assembly and tuning)
research the crap out of honda turbo here.........dont be afraid to frequent the forced induction forum.
good luck
