Newbie "?Regarding Auto -> 5sd Tranny...
Hey all, im in need of a little advice. I recently am a new owner a 1993 civic DX hatch, and plan on replacing the engine and tranny. I not a fan of automatic tranny and want to convert it to manual (hire a professional to do it). Anyone have a general idea on what something like that would run me (labor), as well as some of the parts i would have to add or replace (and what they run roughly)? I appreciate any input. The whole process seems like its goin to be painful though haha. (Also any input on weather its a good idea to invest money (rebuild) into a 1993 civic DX hatch with 130k on a good condition body (no rust or accidents). Thanks all.

I've called a couple of shops before...I've heard $1400, $1250, $750....you should try calling shops around your area...

I just did this whole ordeal over the weekend. It's not as hard as people make it out to be. I happened to have a whole second donor car I picked up for 300 bucks, and it's even two years newer than mine. If you can do somethiing like that, cool. Buying the parts separately, then paying a mechanic to do the work will result in an adventure not worth going on. The only time it's worth it is DIY with a donor. I went start to finish for just the 300 for that car and fluids and belts. If you have the drive to complete it yourself.....do it....you'll gain insight on how your whole car is built!
I just didn't think about getting a donor car before I bought all of the stuff...getting all the parts seperatly was a pain, and too expensive. You did the smart thing, but regardless I'm still happy with the results of my decision
