I just put out all this money into my car and I'm trying to find a good alarm. I'm going to put in kill switches, but I'm looking for an alarm with proximity sensors. I think I seen a Viper alarm in a magazine that has proximities. What are you guys doing to stop/prevent your cars from getting stolen?

Sad... cant even enjoy your own car without having to worry about it missing the next morning.

if a thief wants your car and is good enough hes going to get it.... with proimity sensors... you can have them.. but when anything goes by your car the alarm will go off... with time you'll get sick of it.. and wish it wasnt there.. or deactivate it... and then the thief rolls around in his tow truck... deactivates your alarm...... and all your kill switches to do no good because the bastard just took your car with his tow truck.....theres really no way to stop a good thief that knows what he's doing except lock your car in your garage and hire and armed guard!

1. Dont have a garage.
2. Not likely to hire an armed gaurd. Not a Bently, its a Civic.
3. The alarm wont go off if you put the proximity sensors somewhere that wont detect any random movement.

Proximity sensors are good for the lurkers that want to peep through the window before they attempt to do anything. These are good for the low level, weak thieves that can't steal a car, but to take whatever's inside, vandalize whatever they can, and book it.

A real theif can jack a car, even with the most sophisticated alarm systems there is. A tow truck.

I have a proximity sensor. The sensitivity got weaker during the years of owning it. You can adjust the inside sensitivity, as well as the exterior sensitivity.

Overall, it doesn't hurt to have one but it's not theft preventable.

I run a hidden toggle switch to the ignition, turn key and nothing, hit switch then turn key and start..
I also installed a 2-camera system outside the house. When I go to bed I pop in a 9hr tape and press record, if something happens at least I will be able to see what happened and possably reconize the perps..And basic car alarm from local stereo shop.. So far so good.. I live in a bad hood as well, seems people dont fool with cars down here due to the invoirement, but most crap going on in the nicer neighborhoods around here......

Can anyone recommend a good proximity sensor?

hahahahaha. seriously though, i think the best theft deterrent methods are physical ones. i.e. detachable steering wheel, removing ecu, switches. more work for thieves. but like everyone says, if they want it bad enough they'll get it.

A car needs 3 things to run... air, spark, and fuel find a way to cut off all 3 and the car isnt going anywhere without a tow truck.

Alarms that make noise don't work because no one pays attention to them.

Me I got the autolock on the car, I take out the ecu, take out the VAFC.. Soon I'm getting a steering wheel and a detachable hub. If I was feeling really **** I would take a sparkplug wire.

I hear you on that, I've heard many stories about a shop around here that does that ****. The bad thing is, people still go to them cause its really the only audio shop around here.
