CAM not turning
so i got a rebuilt z6 head here.....and i can tturn the cam to TDC. I am thinking this isnt turnable due to the new springs pushing up on it and how the whole thing is bone dry basically cept for some surface oil. now do i take the rocker assembly off place it TDC lube up the cam and everything and bolt it back together? and before i start the motor and put the valve cover on should i dump some motor oil on top of everything to prevent start up metal to metal?
I hope your cam isn't broken.
You want to set the block and head to TDC when you put the head back on. If you turn the cam by hand (wrench) it doesn't matter if there is oil in there. You aren't going to be turning it fast enough to do damage ( I think ). Turn the cam over to TDC, then take out the rocker assembly and lube the cam area up nice, with engine oil (or if you got a new cam it might of came with some lube, otherwise engine oil). Pour it over where the cam rotates in the head assembly and over the cam lobes. That should be enough oil. Make sure before you tighten the rocker assembly back on and that all the valves are in the TDC position otherwise you WILL break the camshaft. I had one of mine break on me (not fun to waste 280 bux). Also torque everything down to spec (Helm's).
