Default Turbo on an Automatic transmission (Integra LS)

Hi people,

I'm in the process of purchasing a Turbonetics T3/T4 within a turbo kit including intercooler and everything for my 94 Integra LS..my questions are the following

1. How well do Honda Automatic transmissions handle a turbo with say 7-8 psi of boost? Is there any reason for me not to turbo an Automatic? Are there reliability issues?

2. What exactly is an exhaust manifold? I always thought this was a header. This kit does not include an Exhaust manifold. What kind would you guys reccomend, and could someone explain the difference between simply the manifold itself and the header?

Thanks a lot!

Drag 3 kit with 6-7 psi of boost should be good for low 14's high 13's. Don't power brake, manually shift or neutral drop the tranny and you will be fine. Get a tranny cooler and the tranny will last quite a long time.

A search did not yield anything about Turboing with an AUTOMATIC transmission.

Hmm so no power braking/etc? Reason being? I was told power braking will spool up the turbo ahead of time or something..and what are some tranny coolers you would reccomend?

max psi is a newbie perhaps on this board but don't jump to conclusions on people saying they don't know anything because there experience isn't expressed on the NET??

A torque converter is a great idea and if they don't have your application I am sure they can have one made for a pretty $$$. An exhaust manifold is basically the replacement for the header which has the flange welded at te end of the runners to connect your turbo. Peace and good luck

Sounds good-

Doesnt the car come stock w/ a tranny cooler?
Also a torque converter isnt a very mainstream thing to do is it (for an automatic turbo)? This would probably not help much?

didnt mean to jump to conclusions, on other boards people provide a lot of misleading information though.

1. the stock tranny is cooled through the radiator, but it'd be MUCH better to put in a seperate tranny cooler, its rater simple and inexpensive

2. a torque converter is almost a must, it will help your tranny last longer and it will improve quater mile times a lot with a turbo. Torque converters are very mainstream with automatic V-8's in the domestic world...why don't you hear about them in the import world? because there are hardly any performance imports that run autos. so go to http://www.level10.com they have a torque converter, its $500 or $600 and with a tranny cooler you will be set.

cooler: I recommend a Hayden one, they can be purchased online. I bought mine at Pep boys.

torque converter: Level 10 is good, but very very expensive. We're talking about 500 bux. Theres a place called Art Carr, does it for way cheaper. Check out http://www.Artcarr.com 300 bux for a upgrade tq.

Good luck on your turbo auto tranny setup... Cuz i know i'll need it on mine.
