This is gay and I need opinions...
I bought a 1989 Crx si for $500.00, clean title, bad bondo work all over the body, a dx engine, no stereo, and a shitty paint job. I was told there was slight suspension damage......
It looks like there is severe damage to the right front suspension...Like 1100.00 worth, and I will have to work a lot on this car. I dont know if I want to just scrap this and start over on a new car, if I want to sell the crx dream or what ... Im lost man.
The spindle on the right side is screwed, tie-rod, lower control arm, torsion bar...And I really dont know.
Im near tears man... help me out.

when they told you it had slight suspension work damage, didn't you look for yourself? or test drive it. If its that bad it prolly doesn't drive very good
How could there be 1100 dollars worth of damage to the suspension?!
Unless the body is severly bent up there, it shouldn't cost all that much to fix. You can do it yourself with hand tools and a little know how.
EDIT: As always, post your questions about it on here. Don't get raped in the *** by some mechanic, do it yourself.

im 17. So all i have is a wrecked crx, a friend who he + I = 1 not-so-good mechanic.
So even if I did get parts, I would have to be on the forums at all points in time, and the 1100.00 was a quote from autopro here in east tenn. They gave me a little list, and i could have a used spindle, lower arm, and steering rack for 250.00 shipped here on H-T, should i do it?I also had a few more goodies secured for that amount(front & rear bumpers, mao sensor, dash, corners) so is it a good deal?

steering rack and some LCA's for 1100???
run the other way screaming.
find an EF in the yard and get what you need. swap the stuff in. go slow, label all the bolts in zip lock bags, dont work exhausted, and just reverse the process to reinstall.
get a helms (best 60 bucks youll ever spend on your car)
you can do it.

2. that stuff should cost him 100 dollars max, he can install it himself for free.
3. How in the hell can he spend 5000 on that car?? Unless he goes ape **** on paint, I don't see how.
4. I started working on cars when I was 17/18, and I learned and learned and learned. Gotta start somewhere, age doesn't really matter. In fact, younger is better since he'll have more energy.

based on this, i say sell for sure. you are most likely going to do a swap, so you could have just gotten a shell. you paid a shell price, but no one ever buys a shell in the condition you got. bad bondo and paint...that's the worst and you'll never be happy w/ it and will be forced to fix it. who knows what other hack stuff is done on the rest...wiring. sorry man.

If you want to sell it let us know, or if you really want to fix it don't be scared. If you get stuck I'm not that far away and I can bail you out of most mistakes.
my 4g4d was the exact same, except it was the rear suspension, the passenger side control arm.
i say tough it out, keep it. it'll mean so much mor ethen its all done. i bought mine for 500, SUPER bad rust patching, bondo, etc. put 3500 into paint/body replacement, and an additional 1500 to fix the rear suspension Honda said couldnt be fixed.
i've never seen a prouder honda owner. you gotta pay to play

I say if you have done some susp work/steering work then try to tackle it yourself man. If chassis parts are damaged then dunno. But if its all moving susp/steerin parts then it is a job you can do for yourself.
Now the fact is that you didn't start with a good base at all. You can get a decent ef for 1500 running everything ok (just ok). And for you to leave your car running like this car its gonna cost you some more, and then you need a paint job, and then more things pop out. Its like that, they are old cars. Might as well start out with a car thats running strait.
The only reason I would buy a fucked up car is if im gonna do all the work to fix it up myself

it just hurts soo much to see her suffer and know that I cant do anything about it right now. The body means nothing to me at this point, im fully performance oriented.Another thing I thought about is just finding a good importer and let her sit for as long as it takes to get enough to buy a whole complete jdm front clip-seats up... or damn, It would prolly be cheaper to buy a full freaking SiR.I want thr b16 and whatnot, but all of that **** is way too expensive.
I need a therapist...I care way too much about this car

OK 1st things 1st, if its all just bolted up parts that are damaged, thats hella easy & inexpensive to unbolt & replace yourself & then take it in for an alignment. Now I would bet that once you get the new front suspension stuff, it wont line right up due to the whole car itself being bent outta shape. At that point, I'd find a dumb kid to sell it to, lol! Bottom line, if you wanna be a car guy, taking it apart is a good idea to get used to, cause unless you got deeper pockets than you say, youre gonna be broke all the time! Dont be intimidated by something just because it sounds like a big job, chances are you'll find out its easier than you thought, & you'll be able to say "I fixed that...MYSELF!"
Im 18 and my friend is 23 and we = one Alrite mechanic, but we used the cheap 15 $ how to do 90 honda civic book, Goto any local autozone, national, or pep boys and pick one up, You'll never ask questions on the forum, you also can call up national and get pricing quotes on your suspension problems.
or u can get lucky and find a lesbian selling her sones 90 hatch back with no rust and 79k on the odometer for $500, because he was an ******* to her. .... srry had to say it, but yea suspension is easy to work on and i am alson 17 and im working on a turbo now with a min wage job in ny its $6/hr so yea its possible stick with it, make honda proud

oh, yeah, lets make me broker...more broke...whatever.
It looks like the general concensus is sell her, but I cant just abandon her... what would i do if my girlfriend sold me and started over? Im gonna have to get some parts and hit this damn thing head on.
