Default Accidentally fueled up with 87 octane, and now!

as the topic says, i put $10.00 of 87 octane in my ~12.0:1 comp ls/vtec.

and guess what, it is detonating. (thats actually how i figured out that i did it)

So what are my options, its detonating pretty bad. Throwing more fuel at it only helped moderately.

ITs only about a half tank, so what are my options? I could get race gas, (prolly 105, maybe 110. OR cant you use tuolene or something to bump up the octane? I just need to get it from 87 up to around 93-94 and it doesnt detonate.

Not really into putting octane boosters in there, and even if I were to, I dont think they make a strong enough octane booster.

anyone here mix gas? how much race gas will i need, or what else can i add.

you could try emptying the tank. either try a siphon, or bypass the fuel line and hook up a drain tube and pump the gas into a container with the fuel pump.

Yeah I have a siphon, but I was always under the impression that they wouldn't work. Pumping the gas into a container with the fuel pump would be kinda slick.

I've just did a search on a local site and they say theres a BP selling 114 about 10 miles from my house. I think i may just add some of that, how much u think i need?

empty your tank!!! there is a 17mm bolt on the bottom of your tank, all you have to do is take it off and let it drain.

huh, thats news to me. Thats probably the easiest solution, Ive already driven 26 miles on the 87, I dont know how many miles i drove before i realized it was doing it, atleast 10 or so. But then i caught it and cranked up the fuel and just took it real easy on it, i think ill be alright.

It wont go to waste, ill just drain it and put it into the EG. Thanks.

Retard the ignition timing at the distributor for now, until you fill up again.

just a suggestion but you could dump a bottle of octane booster in there. What octane do you usually run?

If you try to up the octane with 110 or higher , chances are it's going to be leaded fuel.. That will then clog your cat and ruin your 02 sensor easier.. 1 more thing, if you run the higher oct stuff you need to advance the timming even though your overall tank oct will be lower, the fuel is still going to burn slower.. Buy a new crush washer if your going to pull the tank plug..They always seen to leak if you reuse them( even when tq'd properly)(my experience)

Go to the paint store and buyt 2 gallons of Toluene. With half a tank, should put you above 92.

Im probably just going to drain the tank and put the fuel into my beater car, but I was curious about the toulene thing. Does anyone else here actually do that? I heard it was safe but i honestly have never messed with the stuff I didnt know how that stuff is.

Think it cause any problems with the motor? There is kinda alot of money (a relative statement i supposed) in it and i dont wanna screw it up now that i finally got it running good.

We used to use Toluene religiously in our Supra, 75% 92 octane, 25% Toluene, made a 98ish octane rating. Never had any problems.

yeah tell me about it, I'm used to putting 87 in my other cars and I must have just pushed the wrong button. The only reason i figured it out is because i heard it detonating, then i thought i got some shitty gas, then i remember it was 4.6 gallons out of 10 bucks, if u do the math thats 2.13 a gallon (87octane) compared to 2.35 for 93.

Just to fill you in a little bit, detonation doesnt necessarily have to be at full throttle. My car was detonating in 3rd gear and up around 2,500 to 5,000 rpms when it was under load.
