What is the potential of a 1997 honda civic ex ???
Should I keep the sohc vtec in my ex or go ahead and get a engine swap, if i do go with the swap, which swap do you suggest. Is their any possibility of the sohc producing significant power?

the potential is to get 30+mpg and have it start everyday and be cheap to fix. If you want something fast, start with something other than a 1.6 liter econobox to begin with, maybe something RWD with 4 wheel disc brakes. You'd be better off in the long run.
Unless you want a modded out riced out 14 sec Honda, then go turbo on the D16.

the sohc has potential but it costs money and there are disandvantages. Instant gratification, Turbo kit. Better all around driveability, go with the swap. Better car for going really fast, their are alot of other options. If i was interested in really doing racing, drag or autox, i would probably get a TSI and start from their. They are so insanely easy to mod and those engines are like cordwood. Plus they still even make them to this day. My second option would probably be either a corolla or 240. Third is what i have now, my civic.

The potential is that with a Greddy Turbo kit with stock setting 5.5psi and stock exhaust, stock catalytic converter, and everything else being ******* stock, the car runs 0-60 in 6.8 seconds and still get 30/36 MPG !! thats assuming you don't go around hitting boost like crazy....
i commute to school 30 miles everyday so i know. at the end of the week, i'm still getting 360miles per tank! can't beat that!
