HAHAH both parents know im getting a bike!
So someone squeeled on me to my parents about me getting a bike. I am in the middle of taking my msf course, and on wednesday I had a choice miss the class that i payed $150 for, or pick my brother up.
So I did what everyone else would of done in this case. I took the class, I got home from the class at 11 and my parents who usually are asleep at 9 cuz they work at 6 in the morning, were up waiting for me. I walk in and they tell me to sit down... so i do... my dad is all pissed off and you can see it on his face. He yells at me "Son i dont want you to get a bike, its to dangerous" I tell him that this class is teaching me all the right fundamentals (sp) to take the right step towards riding a motorcycle. My mom jumps in and says "Just becareful on the bike (She approved
YAY!) my dad was like son im on the road a lot and me and your brother saw a motorcyclist slide under a truck and he came out from underneath the truck with out his helmet off.
After about 10 mins of bickering back and forth with my dad he finally gave in, but was really pissed at me. Hes like "If you get a bike you get a small one you can learn to ride on, and dont get stupid on that bike, you make that bike respect you, not the other way around" at this time I had the biggest grin on my face. Both my parents said i can get a bike, they dont want me to, but they respect my wishes and know i dont do anything stupid, and always work for what I want.
So now ima keep that on the d/l with my family cuz their gonna all try to talk me out of it. But I am so damn close I can taste it. I finish the rest of my msf course this weekend. I decided to go witha used bike after watching my friend dump his brand new bike the first week he had it. So finally ladies and Gentlemen... I will join you riders!

haha my parents were pretty (surprisingly) cool about me taking the class. they thought i was bluffing on the whole idea of getting one. haha next thing you know, i was telling my mom and my dad that i was picking up a bike and they both were excited
took it home, dad hopped on, went arourd the block in his chanelas (filipino for slipper)

althought parents should be happy that your takin the class, and not just going out and buyin an r1...silly parents, squids are for kids.
Better that your parents know now than later. And listen to pops, start out small, learn the basics, get "Twist of the Wrist II". Don't skimp on the gear. Get the best that will protect your hide and won't tear up or be worn out after one riding season. Don't be crazy. Don't go racing cars on the streets. Be cool. Be smart. Ride smart. If you want to ride fast, hard, I really suggest you take it to the race track. It will give you a totally different outlook on riding hard and fast than what you would get from riding on the streets....plus it is much much safer. And you will learn a lot, and feel more confident. Serioulsy, take small steps for a greater gain. Good luck with your riding, and welcome to the best hobby.
Peace.
Peace.

You know....I was all about getting a bike for awhile. I really wanted one badly...people I knew had them, some still have them...they looked like a lot of fun to ride, etc. Now, most of the people I knew that had them got rid of them. Everyone I told that I was going to get one told me of a story of someone they knew who got killed on one.
Then I started thinking about it more. I'm 24, just got out of college after my parents spent a ton of money on me getting me through school and raising me and I figured I kinda owe them and myself not to get one. Not for the fact that I don't think I could ride it safely, I know I could, but I don't trust the people driving around me. I see people DAILY making idiot mistakes driving to and from work and I just think if I was on a bike I would probably get run over by one of these stupid mother ******* and be dead before I owned it a month. I live in Jacksonville so there aren't too many non-busy roads around the area I live in. I decided I want an S2000 instead.
Just be careful and watch out for yourself. I know a guy who just got a '05 CBR600RR three weeks ago and he already totalled it from trying to do a wheelie.

Ah, the good old days, when you're 10 years old, the throttle is stuck, and your legs are flailing behind you.

I just had the guy I bought my bike off of drive it to my house because I wasn't licensed or anything at the time. My parents just thought he was a friend and was parking it here until that night when they were like "So when is your new friend picking up his bike" ... Needless to say after 10 minutes of explaining that the bike was mine my mom said "If you are going to ride you should ride safe" and she paid for my MSF course.
Also I made a deal with her that if she bought me some gear that I would quit smoking ... Needless to say I save close to 40 bucks a week now and have a new HJC helmet along with a Joe Rocket jacket and gloves.
Honestly it all was the best money I have ever spent in my life. Welcome to your new life. You will love it here.

ladies and Gentlemen!!!!!!!!! I RODE FOR THE FIRST TIME. DREAM COME TRUE I have to say its the funnest thing Ive ever done. I am on my second day of the MSF course. I struggled getting it out of gear and got really frustrated. I just needed to relax and have fun out their, and it all came to me naturally... I cant wait till i get a bike now...
Sometimes it is just better to be honest, but in this case, the only reason why they didn't turn you down is because you were already taking the classes and they would feel guilty to say 'no'.
In my case, you have to be 18 to get a motorcycle license, anyway, and I was out of the house the holidays after my 18th birthday.

Take your time, just cause another biker rides by you, doesn't mean you have to keep up with them. Stay within your riding boundaries. Don't show off, some kid tried to show off last week and ended up under a parked Jeep Wrangler. (Hope he's okay, still did stupid stuff and paid for it) Start in the parking lot neighborhood, then small roads, and so on. Small steps and use your brain. And its respect the bike. It can and will throw you off, not the other way around.
