I've always heard of people using 4th, is that because on most cars it's closest to 1:1 ratio?

On most cars with a transmission (NOT a transaxle) it is direct drive where the input shaft connects directly with the output shaft. On cars with a transaxle you usually use whatever is closest to a 1:1 ratio.

Although both times I've had my car dyno'd it was in 3rd gear (1.2xx) instead of 4th (.9xx) maybe because it would just take forever in 4th
