So this is a wierd one. Everything about both door locks works fine except when I have the driver door open and I press the button to lock both doors, only the passenger door will lock. When the door is closed it works fine. what the hell is goin on?

ummmm......thats normal. It happens on my teg too. I never tried this but here's an idea. Try lifting up the outter handle and then pressing the button
But back on topic though, I never really thought about why the door locks do that, but I would assume that it was so that if you left the car running, and you had the passenger side door closed and you left the car........that the door won't close and lock you out of your own running car

its to prevent you from accidentally locking your keys in the car. you can get the drivers' door to lock by:
1) pulling the interior door handle and holding it open, push the lock button
2) key in keyhole
3) keyless entry
