so i went out to **** around a little and was hoping to take a few shots pullin her up...BUT my 3.2MP Kodak cant take the motion/speed...it just gets blurry as ****

any advice for a DECENTLY priced digi that can handle motion capture?
here's the only pics that came out that are even recognizeable...the rest look like a butterfly smeared across the lens

i mean i'm no mad stunna but i'd like to get a FEW quality pics up on 1...

 

Wow.. I think my motorola cameraphone takes better pics than that! It almost looks like you did an effect on the picture to make it look that way using some sort of software lol.

And although the picture is extremely blury, don't think I didn't notice that you were wearing shorts while doing those wheelies either!

Was the flash on? Were you (or rather, the photog) moving the camera while trying to film the action? Try adjusting the settings before you decide you need a brand new camera.

 

i went thru all the settings and there's nothing as far as shutter speed, etc. the flash was on auto but DID go off..hmmmmmm, we'll see..i might have to go do some camera shopping in the next week or so..

my brother was stationary on the sidewalk not moving a bit

 

Don't run while you try and take pictures.

The point I was getting at was that the shutter typically lags when you take a picture with the flash off. But, I guess that's not it...

I've taken action shots with a 3.2mp camera before (Olympus Stylus 300). So that's not the problem. Sorry, guess I'm not much help otherwise...

i've never tried running while taking pics of myself doing wheelies, but i'll let you know how it works out

 

anything with an adjustable shutter speed or an action shot mode will work.

 

The problem you're having is because you're trying to take action shots in low light. The shutter is staying open longer to get better exposure but the movement of the bike as well as your brother's very minor body movement is what's making the pics blurry. In some ways, we've actually moved backwards with the proliferation of digital cameras.

You have a few options...
-take pics during the day
-use a camera with shutter speed adjustment, underexpose and then lighten in photoshop (I prefer this method)
-get a big *** flash and tripod


FWIW, I have &gt;$1000 digital SLR camera and suffer from the same problem. Buying a more expensive/better camera isn't going to fix it automatically. Action modes help but aren't fullproof. The more you zoom in, the more the photographers tiny body movements are amplified. Below is a picture I took with a 300mm zoom. One tiny twitch of my body (which everyone has and can't control) fucked up the entire picture.




Here is a similar shot sans twitch (albeit poorly framed).

Get a digital camera that has more manual settings so you can use the apature and shutter speed. I used to take a class and the faster the shutter speed the better you will be able to take motion pictures better. I just picked up a 5.0mp A95 canon with all the manual selections on it, I haven't received it but hopefully when I get it I can post up some pictures for everyone

 

I hope you have your shutter speed high. And are you panning through your shot? Smoothly follow the action with the camera, snap the picture, and follow through. I can take action shots with anything using that method.

 

did you take these at night or in the early morning? if so, your digital camera is compensating for the lack of light by leaving the lens open a bit longer. It does this so that it can properly expose the picture. Just try doing these pictures around noon or atleast when the sun is fully out.

 

Good luck getting any point and shoot camera to do good pictures of thing moving when you are shooting in low ligh, heck even picture period in low light with them dosnt work to well. I have a DSLR and even then you need a fast lens and know how to set your camera up.

FYI point and shoot cameras do not have shutters.

i wasnt the one taking the pic...i'm on the bike...but i'll look into the panning thing
as for shutter speed, of course this thing has no shutter at all....it just processes slow as hell..takes a full second to snap the pic after pressing the button.
