OK here's what happened. I was in the water pitt yesterday smoking my tires. Everything was going ok until I stopped. When I stopped and tried to put the car in gear it wouldn't go. I tried every gear (even reverse) but it just wouldn't go in. It felt like something was blocking the shifter from going into gear. About 1 minute later it finally went into gear. After this the car smelled horrible for like 10 hours. It seems to be running ok now but what the F$#%CK happened. Is my clutch gone??? should I get the toda flywheel and exedy clutch now or the ACT or was it something else??? What do you think

FYI car has 10034 miles on it with the below mods, minus the AEM intake (getting an ICE BOX )

Hmm, well the smell could be from glazing your clutch. The gear thing might be related ot that; I don't know enough about the ITR tranny to really give ya any reasons for that problem.

Your clutch just got real hot and stopped working. It cooled down, and it works ok, right? I wouldn't worry about it, but I would avoid beating the poo poo out of it, unless of course you want to replace it.

did you slip the clutch alot? Are you sure that you were smoking your tires and not your clutch? I smoked my clutch while playing with different ways to launch at the strip. What happend was i left the line feathering the clutch, shifted into second and there was nothing there, shifted into third, still nothing there. Finished the 1/4 in forth, hence my 24.9 @49mph in my sig. Anyways, I just let it cool down and it works fine now, but is a little bit looser then before. Also I've got a boat load of hot spots on my clutch and pressure plate. Good luck.

 

Are you sure you those were the tires you were smoking?

 

hmmm, I did notice that the smoke was kinda hazy. It wasn't billowing out from the wheels like normal. Do you think that if I was burning the clutch it would not go into gear again.?? And is it normal to smell for that long??

 

there's a priceless video out there about a pontiac firebird doing burnouts... u probably did exactly what he did.

yea i did that before on dry ground w/my gsr w/the e brake up thinking i was smoking tires with the clutch engaged but tires not moving...when i was done i could smell my clutch from inside and standing outside of my car. it stayed for a couple hours and then it was all gravy once again...

 

Oh yea..the smell will last for months...and when you turn on the heater....WHOA!

Tire and clutch are obvious differences in smell...

I bet you shaved off about 10K miles on its life.

I did the same thing last week when I was racing a porsche. It pissed me off. I wasn't a hundred precent shure that it was clutch fade because I have broke the tires loose worse than that before. I have been having problems with the brake fluid in the clutch system also. I had some super blue ate in there and bled it all back out and replaced it with honda dot 3. I was suspecting that the slave cylinder was sticking and thus not letting the pressure plate engage fully. It smelled like clutch for about 2 days in my garrage. I didn't drive it after that for about a week. I took it to the acura dealer and they couldn't find nothing wrong. They said that the flywheel looked okay and wasn't glazed. They didn't find any leeks in the hydraulic system neither. They said that the clutch was coverd under warranty also. I didn't think that it would be. I was going to pull the tranny and upgrade The clutch untill I found out that it would void my warranty on the tranny. That sucks. I don't have any problems with it now it seems to be okay. I feel better that some one else has had the same problem. Good luck!

 

Hey man replace you fluid in the clutch system and see if that helps. I read asspennys reply and got it mixed up with you problem. If it wasn't slipping and was just hard to get into gear I would check the fluid. You will probably find that it is black or a greenish color. I talked to a mechanic at the acura dealer and he said that they have been bleeding the systems everytime that some one comes in for an oil change. He woulnd't give me any more specifics about it. It has to be some defect.

i heard that smoking your street tyres dont help at all, it's just wasting them. only when you have slicks then you should burnout to warm them up to make them sticky.

 

The question is, why was he doing a burnout in the waterbox?
First of all thats not what the water box is for, and second of
all doing burnouts on radials is useless.

hey, I just wanted to do a burnout at the track, is that so bad. I don't have slicks on the car. I have the stock RE 010's for god sake!!! Man, I don't burn out often, because its illegal on the street so I wanted to did it at a track.

Man for people so against street racing you guys should be happy I was doing it at the track and not on the street, hey you know what if your so happy flamming me I'll do a burnout in a kindergarden school zone at 2:40 in the afternoon next to the playground so they can smell the tire smoke!! Would that make you happier
