Default So who here has Race Bodywork?

Ok so I was priced out the Air Tech carbon "Joe Camel" race body work for my bike. PFFFFTTT yeah right. Next.

So I looked at Sharkskinz and it was right around $900 for full body work. Not bad.

Priced out Cheetah race body work. Same deal about $900, but came with the Daytona front fender.

Well I just come across a STUPID deal on Cheetah full race body work. 1pc upper, 1pc lower, 1pc solo tail AND the daytona front fender (F2's had probably expanding at daytona and rubbing tire to stock fender) for $450.00. That's like half the price!!!!

Should I not consider drilling and using stock hardware? Seems like everyone uses like DZUES clips or 1/4 turn fasteners etc...

What am I getting myself into? I wasn't quite prepared for this so soon because I didn't plan on having the rest of the money for another month and a half, so I'm kind of curious now. Thanks.

i would think that it would be relatively simple to drill the skinz and use stock hardware. but ive never done anything of the sort.

do you plan on getting them painted?

See that's what I was thinking. I still have all the stock hardware, and I was thinking just drill the bodywork and use that. I wasn't sure, since I thought most race bodywork was fiberglass, instead of ABS Plastic (or whatever stock is) etc... So I didn't want to crack anything by using the allen bolts.

I will have it painted, but of course after everything is mached up and test fitted first.

The Dzus fasteners work very well. And they're much simpler to use than Allen fasteners.

You can use the stock fasteners and locations for most of the body panels. BUT, there are going to be three smaller holes on each side where the upper and lower connect - those you'll need to use either a screw glued in so you can attach a wingnut (or something) to hold the two pieces together, or the above-mentioned Dzus fasteners. More likely than not, you'll also need to do a small bit of drilling/check-fitting for these small holes. It definitely helps to have a second pair of hands to hold the plastics together at this time.

And the tail pieces/side panels for the F2/3 are a PITA. You know that little hole that the rubber grommet is in? The one where the tail panel pops into? You'll need that for your race fairings. But, that depends on how your race tail is setup.

Good luck!

Yeah the Dzus fasteners are obviously easier and quicker to use, but mounting the bases to these fasteners is what I'm unsure about. I'm trying to picture in my head this GT1 car I crew for that uses Dzus fasteners and the bases that are mounted on the tube chassis that the body panels line up on and the Dzus fasteners clips into. Well I'm trying to figure how I would mount those on my bike. Right now I was just planning on using the stock hardware and then using Dzus fasteners to hold the upper and lowers together or some type of like slide on clips and screws.

I'm lost at what you are talking about on the tail piece. Are you talking about the two on each side near the front part of the seat and fuel tank? Near the fuel cut-off switch? Where the left and right stock tail sides would clip into?

This particular tail is one of the ones that uses the stock seat, but I can't tell close enough what kind of mounting points it has.

That's what I did. It worked just fine. Not the prettiest, but definitely held together.

Yeah, that's what I'm referring to. I can't tell from the pictures, either (looking at Sharkskinz or AirTech), but it seems like it would also have one nub on each side that snaps into the lower fairing.

Im using all the stock mounting bolts for my fairings and d ring dzus fasteners to hold the upper and lower together. Makes for very easy work on the bike. Sharkskinz are really nice but pretty pricey....I've heard of a lot of people not liking cheetas. Bad fitment, thin glass. Im using ak composite on my race bike. I got a good deal before they starting blowing up and raising their prices. Not sure how much they go for now but you can check it out.... http://www.akcomposite.com
