my car wont start, dash board related.
Hey guys. Ive recently put a drivetrain back into my old crx which i plan to sell. Everything in the engine is hooked up correctly, and properly working.
Now, when i turn the key it will turn on the fuel pump (had a slight leak that has been fixed) but the car wont turn on. Nothing on the instrument cluster will get power. The guages (fuel, etc) do not respond, and the lights that would turn on(engine light, brake, etc) before actually starting the car will not turn on.
I can turn the key with or without the clutch depressed (i have not bypassed the clutch sensor) and it will make a weird noise. Its sounds like a turning noise, and almost electrical in sound. Its not a very accurate description i know. The starter was giving me problems before (this drivetrain was in my new car), but I doubt that it is just spinning freely, because this sounds occurs even without the clutch depressed.
Any ideas? One guy tells me it can do with the starter/key cylinder since it is not sending power to the cluster. I am due to go junkyard hopping soon, and might get this part. Are the key cylinders interchangeable (i dont want seperate keys for door/starter), and is this actually what is wrong here? Thanks for any help.

fuses both under the hood and inside the car.
its gotta be that, unless you have a short to the 12 volt for the dash itself.
could be defective key cylinder, just drop that little panel under the steering wheel and see if your ignition and accsessory is behaving as it should be. you can remove the key cylinder, you just have to drill out the rivet that holds it on, but then you'll end up with two keys, one for the door, or to start the car.
the better way to do it is take your VIN to the dealer and get it. otherwise youll need to take all the locks from another EF to make it right.
however.... i suspect an under the hood fuse, or a missing ground.

i checked all of the fuses already in the engine bay and under the dash. they are in good shape.
now, you say to check to see if the hey cylinder is behaving as it should. how should it be behaving? i really have no experience with dash board wiring.

well, i have some updated info here.
the main relay is making a very large vibration when i turn the key, and is what is making the sound. i dont believe the relay is damaged because I had a second one that is in working condition, and it does the same thing.
