Default Here's a new one I never read about in the FI forums...might just be coincedence.

Well I finally got my B18b in and running after my original 110k mile B18a **** the bed last Oct.

I spent about 2 hours tuning in my maps on TurboEdit today and as I started tuning the boost sections in the higher RPMs, my battery light started kicking on.

Anything above 5500 rpms and at full boost the battery light would come on...weird.

Sometime it would go off by itself, other times I would have to tap the brake light and it would go off.

I'm not sure what was happening or if maybe my alternator is going and its just coincedence. By why would it only come on above 5500 rpms and at full boost?

I'm at a loss, any ideas?

because the turbo is sucking the charge from the battery, because of how much boost your are running.

They are directly related.

Sounds kinda like an alternator, but it is weird that it would magically go away.

Maybe the belt is loose?

do you have a turbo timer on your car? or any kind of electronics that read battery voltage on your car? so that you can watch the voltage of the battery?

Hrm...no turbo timer.

But I could always hook up a voltmeter

And Im not even running that much boost John...5psi

Does anyone know what the voltages or the conditions are that trigger a battery light to pop on?

a factory manual would be a great help to you at the moment, maybe to trace over wiring, and help trouble shoot the problem.

the battery light is coming on, ....does the radio still work when the battery light comes on? do the headlights dim any?

Is the alternator belt tight? The brushes on the alternator could be worn down. Its dead simple to change them. The dealer has (or can get) OEM replacement brushes. They're cheap too, like $10 for a pair.

I would guess its a loose electrical connection. Had the same thing on a civic I worked on a little while ago.
