Default [FAQ] How To: Mount a Johnny Racecar Intercooler onto your del sol/eg+ civic

material:

intercooler
mounting hardware + bolts
10 mm socket
12 mm socket
power drill
drill bit for drilling metal
dremel
dremel tool for hollowing and engraving hard metal
pliers

before starting

this is simply just an idea of how to do it. i can't be held responsible if you **** up yoru car/intercooler in the process or hurt yourself.

step 1
remove your bumper (if you don't know how to do this then i suggest you stop what you're doing and find another how-to for removing your bumper)

-its usually the screwed down on the top through the radiator support, on both inner fenders, and sometimes at the bottom.

step 2

remove your front bumper support, because it makes it easier to access the bottom of the bumper support for drilling and hollowing. as you can see from the picture below it shows what bolts you need to remove. might be in a different location going from a del sol to a civic, but its pretty much the same concept.

step 3

i chose to cut out the grill, but you do not have to. but i did HAVE to cut out excess pieces from the backside of the bumper so i can put my bumper back on without it touching the intercooler. this may also vary depending on how far back you decide to mount the intercooler.

step 4

put the intercooler up next to the radiator support and mark it with a sharpy so you can get an idea of where to drill. and then drill 3 holes like in the picture below:

take a dremel with a metal engraving/hollowing tip and hollow out the hole. its a bit small for the bolt to go through. it should look something like this:

put the intercooler through the drilled holes on the radiator support and it should look something like this:

step 5

after you've got the intercooler bolted and secured to the radiator support take it back out to your car connected together. bolt the radiator support back the same way you took it off. its kind of heavy so it would help if you could have someone else hold the radiator support while you put the bolts back through. after you've done that it should look like this:

step 6

now put your front bumper back on to see if it fits. if it doesn't quite want to come back on, inspect to see where the bumper and intercooler is rubbing and trim it down to your liking

after you put the bumper back on it should look something like this.

ok, this was my first write-up so if some parts are unclear to you just PM me or reply to this thread and i'll try to help you out.

meh, I did mine back in 03 and only used some zip ties to hold it in place for me while I drilled my holes, then I cut my bumper grille out real quick and tossed it all back together.

not that hard at all.

here's my write-up from back in the day:
