Valentine 1 vs passport 8500 x50 radar detectors
Don't worry its not another "which is best thread"
most important: Which unit has better range? Has anyone actually been able to compare the two? Maybe sitting in a friends car and compared it to your unit, assuming the both of you have the different units.
I wanna know the details, and not what you have read. Have you ever gotten a ticket with the passport? I don't need arrows, but i want several seconds of notice.
No arrows required here, but I am willing to pay the extra dollar to get better range. In CA they use the laser guns instead of the radar
thanks for a quick reply

But the v1 has the best laser protection bar none.
http://www.radartest.com has all the answers you want and they are not biased.
The new V1 has a better rang with POP detection as well. I am not sure radartest.com has tested the new one yet but I can tell you I cant live w/o my arrows
The V1 is the best hands down IMO
</TD></TR></TABLE>Ditto the above
I will add it makes no diff. what det. you have, how much money you spend, if you don't fallow proper speeding procedure, [PSP] you will get a ticket, if you are the one targeted, it's to late, you are toast.

Passport 8500 by far

both of the articles on those sites show the X50 blowing away the Valentine 1

I think it depends where you're traveling in CA. Heading to San Francisco from LA on the 101, I know people who were caught with non LASER. Heading towards Vegas on the 15, those guys use non LASER as well.
I think if you're caught with LASER though, then it's too late. But I dunno since I don't know anyone caught with LASER yet.

X50 never did me wrong. Got stolen though, I'm getting a new one with the blue readout bc it's easier to see at night than red. Red is blurry to me at night, maybe it's me, but oh, the V1 is inferior technologically, read at radartest.com. Then buy the x50. You'll love it. The X50 has updated technology which increases (dramatically) the distance it detects Ka band, the most common kind of radar pigs...er..police use. In the end, it's up to you but don't forget about beltronics the rx 85 is up there too in quality.
Its a tough choice...since valentine used to work for cincinati microwave ! Most good engineers share similar ideas...it all depends on who you like best. Both are very damn good products.
