on the to school, and my car ****** died in the middle of the highway.. attempted to start it but i wouldn't start... now its towed to my house.. anybody know what it is? is it starter or alternator, or both? or something else??
If your car would not even crank over once it had died, then your battery isn't supplying enough power to the starter, but there most likely is a problem with the alternator. If your alternator stopped producing power to sustain the needs of your car, then the power would have been taken from your battery. Unfortunately, nothing was recharging your battery, so as soon as the battery ran out of power the car stalled and would not start again because the battery was dead....
This is according to an assumption that the engine would not crank over once the car had stalled. If it did crank over then there may be a problem with spark or fuel delivery. We would need more details as to what happened at the exact symptoms that you experienced... like did your radio or gauges shut off just before the car stalled .
