Default do i have to use an obd1 dizzy for my obd0-obd1 conversion?

Ok im gonna do an obdo conversion and ive got a minime rex with a d16y8 head
and the obd1 dizzy wont fit right on the head with out prefabrication and and electrical harness. The obd0 fits, What i wanna know is , is it absolutly necessary to upgrade the dizzy for the p28 or could i just switch some wires around. what the difference between the two anyway besides harnesses and holes?

You need a obd2 dizy to fit the y8 head correct(you can "make" it work tho).... and no you cant use a obd0 dizzy on a y8 running obd1.

for the conversion you'll need to run a y8 dizzy, re-wired to obd1 plugs.. also the plugs that plug up with the dizzy need to be re-wired to obd1..

See no one is answering my question. Is that all thats different between obd0 obd1 and obd2 distributors is the wiring? Cause have you ever heard of some wire strippers and heat shrink. and once again what is the difference between and obdo obd1 and obd2 distributor, BESIDES WIRING.

Ok, I DID answer... The obd0 is the oddball. The obd1 and 2 are the same, just pinned different...

So, no u cant use the obd0 for obd1 ecu, only obd1&2

Ryan

PS, I made those jumper btw

I have heard that the obd-0 is only different because of the internal trigger wheel inside has a different number of teeth. Perhaps you could swap the internals and use the obd-0 housing ?

i want to know the same thing. i think maybe they wont tell you the real answer because they want you to buy their harness, and if the obd0 really works with a little rewirin they will loose business . but yea im in the same situation, i got y8 head on a6 block with p28, and i know the a6 dizzy bolts up, but..hrmmmm im not sure. is there different sensors inside the dizzy or what makes the obd0 distributor 'not usuable' on the y8.

WINNER The trigger wheel on the OBD1/2 has more teeth than the OBD0.
The OBD2 has one big plug and the OBD1 has two plugs. You can chop the plug off an OBD2 and run it on an OBD1. OBD0 goes with OBD0. OBD1 or 2 can go with either OBD1 or 2.
I'm told there is an early Prelude that uses OBD0 plugs with OBD1 trigger wheel.
