Default ITR cams

hi,
i just bought my itr cams and installed (all for 350)...and now the vtec x-over is really loud ( i have aem cai, even before cams)...it seems louder than an SI (loud sound but less hollow sounding than SI)...then i thot of a stupid thot...could i have been sold b16 cams? or is it only type R cams that make that loud crossover i looked at them very carefully and they lookd just like type r cams...but then...i looked at b16s and they are very similar...i just question it sometimes...i think i feel more power...but could it be my imagination? just wondering...

The ITR VTEC lobe should look bigger than the B16 or B18C VTEC lobe.
They will sound louder.

ok...i dont think i got ripped off or anything then...the price 350 installed made me skeptical even tho i did look at the cams and stuff before the install...b16 cams wouldn't make the car louder tho rite? is it the bigger lobes that make it louder? cuz the car pulls harder now...but its not like a HUGE diff like FI or somethin...

do you have any other mods to your car other than just cams? Maybe thats the reason why you don't feel a difference. EVeryone i've talked to that have upgraded from stock cams to R cams have said that the difference is night and day!

dang, you got everything installed for 350?! I paid 375 for my cams, but they're still sitting in my room, too bad no one can install it for free

i didn't know that cams made your car louder. I always thought that distinct vtec sound on the Si and the ITR were because of the different style head.

Does your car feel faster? If so, then you got the ITR cams. Si cams aren't gonna make your car faster. When you got them installed, did you compare the GSR lobes to the new cams? I think SI and GSR cams are almost identical.

it's a lot louder...u know how SIs are loud right? it's almost louder than taht but with a less hollow sound...i feel the car pull harder...that's for sure...but its not like 20 HP more or something...it's just a bit quicker...i left my car for them to do it...i lookd at my stock cams after...but i didn't take the chance to compare it side by side...this guy worked at a shop though...so i could always go back...but i just hope that i dont have to go thru that trouble...i'm just always suspicious of good good deals...esp w cams...i've heard people that bought civic R cams but they were b16s

thats cause there are alot of scammers on the internet. Theres nothing you can do about it if you buy them off the net or from some stranger across the country. Sure on ebay, they can post pictures of the cams, but thats not necessarily the same thing they're going to send you, ya know what i'm saying? I say you don't have anything to worry about. With stock GSR cams, you can't feel vtec, but you can hear it. If you can feel when vtec kicks in, you definitely got some bigger cams.

were the cams used? $350 does sound very low for both cams and installation!

Should the cams be dyno'd and adjusted properly for maximum efficiency? It's seems like that's the best way to draw power from cams. Maybe you don't feel as big a difference cause your cams aren't adjusted? Also, if anyone knows, how much does it usually cost to have cams installed and adjusted? You need cam gears to do that anyway don't you? And how do ITR cams compare to SKUNK 2?

yes i got my cams used....used for a month under 1k miles supposedly and raced at the track twice...pretty honest answer to me...it had normal wear...no scratches cracks or chips...yea it's prety cheap...tat's why i wanted to make sure i didn't get ripped...cuz if i did i'm gonna go back to that shop and beat the guys ***...but i dont see any point in him trying to rip someone off if he's gonna meet up w them hehe...as i said i do feel quite a bit of improvement...and a lot of nice sounds in vtec xover...lemme know what y'all think

Yeah you guys should all tune your cars whenever installing cams or doing any type of internal modification. You get about 6-10 hp just from dropping the cams in, and you get another 6-10 after dyno tuning them. You're going to need to get a good set of adjustable cam gears to tune them.

As for installation, it varies depending on the shop. Expect to pay in between $75-150, then at least 150 to dyno tune it. But i think the 150 is worth it cause its fun watching your car on the dyno

dropping the cams in with no tuning gave me 6 whp. After tuning they made 11 whp! After dropping in the cams with no tuning I did not feel any difference until after 7k rpm when they continued making power all the way to 8100+ rpm. The GSR cams peak at 7600, after that it's downhill for the GSR cams.

Its because it doesnt have the flaps that the GSR has in the intake mani. The ITR/B16 inteke mani is 4 straight tubes, whereas the GSR mani has the secondary runners that open up @ 6k.
