how physically durable is the ECU?
well i bought this off ebay and this is how he shipped it. no newspaper no nothing. from florida to CA. my car was running crappy(old ecu messed up I think) now I put the new ecu it still running crappy so I cant tell if the ECU is good or not. from florida to CA it got banged up by the mailman what are the chances there was any damage done? thanks
if it's running the same way on both ecu's chances are they are both good. The odds of both ecu's having the same problem is very slim. Usually a bad ecu throws a solid engine light...

I was taking an ECU out once and I dropped it from 5 feet up onto the concrete, it landed flat on the LCD side and i thought it was toast. Plugged it in and it was still fine. Im gonna say they are fairly tough. How does your car run crappy? Its probly somethin really simple.

Why would you think its messed up ? Usually when you have a problem, I would say 10 times out of thousand it will be the ecu. Its not common. I don't know about shipping an ecu over state with no wraping, but if you had a problem with your old ecu, and you still having the same problem, its not the ecu's. By the way, if the ecu is ever messed up internal, bad enough, I don't even think the car would start. The ecu would throw the bad ecu code. ECU's are not like brakes, they don't wear down. Either 1 day there gonna be working, or the next day there totally gonna be dead.

i seriously doubt the ecu is to blame, just like the others who posted previously.
the ecu in my b16 hatch has been beat all to hell and still works fine. i should show you pics of it, b/c it looks worse than the pic you posted, but is still A+ functionally.

No moving parts on an ecu, they are really durable. Unless you hit it hard enough to crack the wafer board inside the case or microwave the sucker it should be fine. If you get them wet, just make sure you let it dry out completely before plugging it back in.
I would say it is more durable than a nintendo64 game and I used to chuck those ******* across the room and they always worked fine

That made me laugh because I'm a nerd and you could have said 1 in a hundred would be broken.
Anyways, I doubt it's the ECU. You people say running crappy it can be a lot of different things. A bad fuel filter, bad plugs or wires, bad compression, intermittent injector. Tell us exactly what the car is doing and we could probably help you more.

A lot of people will blame things that its not when you can't find the problem, stop shotgunning the problem and figure out whats really wrong.
