Default How much does a b16 swap go for when all is said and done..?

I have a stock 91 CRX DX with a d15b2. The only things new to this car are what have been replaced with scheduled mantainance and a rebuilt transmission.

I am looking into swapping either a z6 or a b16 into my car. I have a really busy work/school schedule and doing an engine swap on my own is out of the question due to time constraints. If I took my car to a reliable shop and asked them to put a b16 that I purchased into my rex, how much would it cost for install.

I really need to know how much each part of the swap costs, like will I need new axles/how much are mounts/etc.

Thnx for your help

There's a lot of money in a swap. You shouldn't believe any different, even with my connections, I probably couldn't do a swap for less than $1500 ( B16A ).

My recommendations for you to have a good engine swap experience are as follows.

Read HT Member droppedcrxsi's webpage about swaps. He's got a list of things to replace on new engines. His website deals specficially with the B16A and B18C swaps.

Buying from Hmotors, I'd personally just drop the bitch in and go, but there's a lot to be said for making absolutely sure that items which require maintenance\replacement are taken care of while the engines out of the car.

First off, no matter what, you will need engine oil, tranny fluid, and radiator fluid. Most engine retailers will not sell engines with fluid in them. They should have a little left over that will dribble all over your nice clean garage floor, but not enough to run the engine.

I recommend Honda Genuine for the tranny and radiator fluids. For engine oil I recommend Mobil 1 Synthetic and a matching oil filter.

It's also smart to do a full gasket service on the engine FOLLOWING ALL OF THE TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. You should replace the clutch and pressure plate as well. If you want one, replace the flywheel at the same time. Also recommended, but not necessary, are the clutch and throttle cables, the fuel filter, Timing belt and tensioner, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, water pump, oil pump ( not usually ) 02 sensors.

Get HASPORT mounts and linkage. Hands down. Don't waste your money on the subharness from them, you should be able to wire the four new wires, if not, you shouldn't be working on cars

You will likely need some exhaust modifications to mate the down pipe flange to the catalytic converter. You may also need to buy new axles depending on the intermediate shaft that comes with the engine. 88-89 Integra axles are **** for this application. 90-93 are a hair too long but surely usable, but the SiR axles are an inch too long ( I believe it's an inch ).

If you wanna spend the cash, get an Integra radiator, you won't have to **** with the radiator hoses and making them fit. Besides, you engine will never hit operating temp and the fan will never turn on. It's **** mcCool.

I'm sure that I'm forgetting something. But all I have to say is spend the money and do things right\smart the first time and avoid spending a lot later.

I think thats the best answer I have read to a question like that. Hands down. I agree with purchasing the HASPORT mounts/linkage. Also sometimes there is a need for misc. sized hoses for fuel/coolant that have been cut and it sucks running back and forth from the parts store. The 90-93 radiator is good and the hoses fit perfectly if you have your stock radiator the bottom hose will most likely be pissing out coolant.

I am around 4500. I went OBD1 P30, greddy SP2, omnipower test pipe, hasport mounts, and linkage, DA front brake upgrade, with 90-91 EX knuckles, etc... No telling how much I have into the smaller misc. stuff. I work at a Honda dealer as a tech, so all the labor I did myself, no telling what that would have cost. Runs great though...
