Just get the longest resonator you can fit in the midpipe. It is still going to be loud because of the large piping and the straight thru muffler.
Any long resonator that is 20" or longer. Magnaflow makes some good ones, or you can get those cheap hi flow Cats (with no catalysts in them)

Have you ever seen one of the 20"+ in SS for 2.5" diameter?

I know you probably don't want to dish out money like this but the hks is super quiet. I have one and its cool but I doubt it free up any power.
Seems like I post this up every day
My setup
Magnaflow muffler
20 resonator from jegs
And it will sound something like this

They don't make it....only the 14" comes in stainless.

I just put a stock Si exhaust on my 90 hatch and I love it!! I have been thru 3 exhaust systems in the last year....each one was too loud for my taste. I did notice a power loss of probably 10HP, yes 10 HP.....it is that bad. However, I love how quite it is.....
I will be switching to a RSR exmag soon, hopefully that will be the last exhaust I buy for this car.

thanks..

i just got a tanabe exhaust. full stainless steel, double walled. looks nice (kinda like a thermal). it was a test item, not sure if its the same of their current lineup. but man, its absolutely SILENT. its not like their fart sticks at all. so quiet, and slight rumble. no tinny or raspy sounds. under 4500rpm, i cant even hear it over the intake, which is also completely stock. it also dynoed at 107hp. all of this is with a gutted cat.
not even sure if this is even relevent to the thread, just thought id share... heh.
btw, i want to get rid of it. but not for cheap. its too nice looking for my car, im trying to be low key. i still have my stock which was fine for me. and it has the cat. i dont care for the smell anymore, so i need to replace the gutted cat.

There is no real way to quiet down your exhaust cept get a better muffler (non straight through or keep it stock)
Resonators lower the pitch down (from the annoying angry bumble bee sounds to low, deep, your ear starts bleeding bass). The larger the resonator, the lower the frequences of the sound coming out of the exhaust.

I put the SP2 on my 88si w/o cat and w/ header and I thought it was insanely loud!!!! It's a great tone though.
-so-
I found a factory resonator from a late model Jetta and put it in place of the resonator that came with the Greddy and it sounds BEAUTIFUL!!!! and the Jetta resonator is 2.25" so it's not restricting the flow (not enough to make a noticable differance on an internally stock A6 anyway)

I'm gonna have to dissagree with that statement based on my experiances. My work is next door to a muffler shop so I get to hear a lot of before/after situations and replacing the resonator with a bigger / better one definately quiets the system down.
