Default 198,000 d16a6 turbo?

ive got a 90 hatch d16a6 with 198,000 miles and was wondering if there would be any problem slapping a turbo on the lil beast? are there many pros than cons or the other way around? if you say yes, what kinda turbo do yall recommend?

thanks

lol, you can put a turbo on any engine. Just need to build your engine for it. New pistons/rods would be a good idea at 200k. Upgrading your valvetrain would also be a good idea. You cant really safely just slap a turbo on a car lol.

Do to further investigation - leaving the browser open on homemadeturbo as it tried to load for about 10 minutes - I have come to the conclusion it is up, but hanging on for a dear life. Conclusion, me.

Eagle rods, CP or Wiseco pistons, new gaskets, ARP head studs. Leave the valvetrain alone unless you want to raise the rev limit or want to run a turbo cam. Basically completely rebuild the bottom end with forged components and you will have a good base to start running a turbo setup.

It depends on the cam. Some cams will actually not work well with a turbo system. You will want to run a cam specifically meant for turbo applications.

with 198,000 miles you should be lucky your engine still takes gas let alone a turbo.....thats high miles i would build it a little or get another a6 for like 500$ and put a t3 on it with like 7psi....and you should be fine without building internals on a low mile a6

i say build the valvetrain specifically for a turbo. get a turbo cam, and some nice springs. Might as well get a p&p while your in there. all just safeguards you. I know that I always want to take my car up into 8500. with a built motor and a decent turbo you could safely go that high, which you will probly want to. Skunk2 valve springs and retainers are pretty decent. Definately go with a cam specifically designed for a turbo. Call all the manufacturers and talk to them about your car and your application.

Remember this. Running a turbo safely is all about engine/fuel managment. Get a good engine managment system. It will help save your butt.

If it doesn't smoke yet i would say go for it, buy a nice fuel management like a zdyne and she will take boost for awhile and then when it finally goes just buy another single cam longblock for dirt cheap.... dseries motors are like ***** they are fun to pass around tell the get clapped out
