Quick Help: 10w-30 Mistake. D16z6 making weird noise
Long story short: 10w-30 was put into the engine instead of the manual transmission.
Got up yesterday, went to drive and it was very sluggish and it bogged down bad. Didn't figure that it was an oil problem until two hours later when it began to make a weird "hissing" noise at higher RPMS.
The hiss is loud and it's coming from the engine bay, definitely.
What would 10w-30 do to the engine? We're assuming that it's a vaccuum leak somewhere... but I have no idea why it would suddenly get a vaccuum leak. Could it be a cracked intake valve?
Quick help.. please...

ok wait i was gonna flame u but im confused? u were changing your tranny fluid and u put it into the engine instead of the tranny and now theres no fluid in your tranny?
=\ Flame me? And you don't even use correct sentence structure? Come on... this forum is for help... not ego boosting.
I didn't put ANYTHING in the engine, though. I had someone put the axel back into the transmission and I had four quarts of oil... two 5w-30 and two 10w-30... he wasn't paying attention and put 10w in the engine...

Umm...my del sol's manual told me to use 10w-30 motor oil in my tranny....So i don't think you are right.

10w-30 oil is fine for ur engine. I use that all the time in mine. Never hurt it yet been running with it for like 2 years now.
He's not right and he's not wrong. Honda MTF is 10w-30 oil.... but some people prefer to use Honda Products on their Honda Vehicle... so to each his or her own.

Okay... so if 10w-30 is fine...
Then it's a coinky-dink that my engine started bogging down the day afterwards? Maybe it really is just an untimely vacuum leak....
I've never used 10w-30 in my Civics... always 5w. So, that's why I assumed right off the bat that it must've been the oil.
Damnit...

Im confused.
You didnt put anything into the engine, but someone did?
10w30 in the transmission is fine but its best to use MTF.

Honda MTF is similar to 10w-30 but it has additives in it, it's formulated for transmissions...
Oh, and putting 10w-30 in your engine is not going to hurt anything...
*edit*
So you added 4 quarts of oil to the engine? Without draning it? That's bad... (not sure if I read it correctly though)...

There's nothing to be confused about...
I just explained that I had a friend put the axel back into my Civic and where as I planned to put 5w in the engine when I got back home... he put 10w in the engine and transmission...
It's retarded.. I know. And I know better than to let someone bother with my POS when I'm not around. My fault.
I just want to know what the hell is up with this stupid *** shitvic.

Damnit... okay. This is my fault for not taking it to a shop, anyway. The AXEL castle nut fell off on the way to TACO MAC and I had someone tow it and all this other crap.. it got frustrating but in the end I lose again because now something else is wrong with it.
I guess it really is just a well timed vaccuum leak.

i used 10 w30 in my car for like 3 months and its fine. the only time u really have to worry about oil is like if u live in colder states where it snows and then u should be using like 0 w something

Thanks. I suppose that I'll just have to wait until it's stopped raining outside so I can go and find out where the hell the leak is.
I'm saying that it might be a leak because when you give it gas, it bogs down and there's this really loud freaking HISS... it sounds like something's spraying all over the place or something's blowing off steam.
We popped the hood and did it from the inside and it doesn't sound like it's coming from inside of the engine... but you can't always tell by ear.
... This is whack.

By far one of the most confusing posts I have ever read. Read it six times and still don't know what the hell is going on. Good luck any way.
so your friend put the 2 quarts of 10w 30 in your engine, was that 2 quarts on top of the 4 already in there, or did he drain the oil and only use two quarts,
if it was meant for the trans, and he put it in the engine, does this mean the tranny has no fluid in it? caused he drained it, but filled up the engine with the oil instead of the tranny..

Shitty Georgia public schools i guess?

The only difference between 10W -30 and 5W- 30 is oil thickness.
in a warner climate like lets say LAS VEGAS. You want to use 10W-30.
In a cooler climate like lets say MILWAUKEE. You want to use 5W-30.
Other than that - Neither oil will "bog" down your car. Unless of course you
over filled much past the intened oil line in which case your spark plugs would be drapped in oil and your car would run like ****.
