Default AXLE QUESTION

Hi!

I have drivers side axle from my last car which was 1994 Civic DX hatch...

My question is: can I use that axle on my 96 DX coupe (D16Y7)? will it fit? Is it the same length?

So if anyone knows, I would appreciate the help... I searched but found nothing...

d series are the same as long as you stay manuel to manuel or auto to auto to fully state it

Actually, manual and auto axles ARE interchangeable.

Just going by what the Honda factory parts diagrams tell me...first is manual tranny, second is auto:

ive heard of other people trying this - on both d and b series didnt work - stick auto to auto - manuel to manuel to be on the safe side of things also mind the differences of abs non abs - etc- those things will make a differance always

HUH???????

So it means if I have an axle from NON-ABS car, it won't fit the ABS car...

Cos my 94 hatch didn't have ABS... and my 96 coupe has ABS... now I am worried cos the tools are ready and I am going to disassemble the whole thing so better hurry with some answers

I think that CV joint is the one with the ABS ring... cos ABS sensor is on the knuckle and the only thing from axle that is close to the knuckle is CV joint...

Hmmm... I will check that...

I think you are right, it's not that it doesn't fit it's just that ABS won't function without the correct axle.

So is it the driveshaft itself or just the CV joint problem...

If I use the driveshaft and replace the CV joint with the ABS one, I think that might work...

Cos I have mint condition CV joints at home for my coupe (with ABS) and I have one shaft (without CV joints) from my previous car which was non-ABS

That would probably work. Shafts hardly ever go bad, usually just the joints anyways. If you got new CV joints just sitting around I'd try it for sure!

yes i read some where about some one with h22 swap who had massive shaking - he forgot to remove the abs rings from his axels- as long as they are taken off they made it sound as if it would be fine - but since he used them with rings on the axels went bad some how
