Default Are 99-00 Si's still worth buying?

Hi,

My first car was an Black 1999 Civic DX Coupe , and shortly after getting it i traded it in for a silver 02 ex coupe have regreted it ever since. This was about a year ago.

I dont like the color of my 02, i dont like the way it rides ( seat is too high and the overall ride is also too high ) too high for my height, im about 6'3, and i also dont like the body and enterior style. I think im too tall for this car and it just doesnt have the same feel and look as the 99 one did.

Anyways, i still owe a pretty good amount on the 02' and will probabaly stick with it for at least another year or two. But, after this time passes i would like to maybe purcahse a 99-00 Si in Electron Blue, because i think these are absolutely beutiful and are fun as hell to drive. Or maybe just a 99-00 ex and do an engine swap so thats its at least as fast, or faster than a stock 99-00 si.

The only reason i didnt orignally get one of these when i got my 02, was because i didnt want a stick at the time.

What do you guys think. Would getting an si in a year or two still be worthwhile? Im not talking about compared to new cars because i personally like the styles of 99-00 a lot better than the styles now. Im just talking about whether or not most of these si's ( especially interested in the blue one) will be driven tot he ground by then. Or would it be a better idea to just get an ex and do a engine swap, oh ya btw did they make a navy blue 99-00 ex, than getting the si.

I look forward to your responses.

I don't want to tell you what to spend your money on. But I will tell you what I would do if I was in your position.

You obviously like the color of the Si, unfortunately Honda did not make any other civic in those 2 years that color. Now, if you have been here more than a month, I'm sure you will have seen all the threads about stolen cars.

I recently did a very quick and basic search for "stolen cars." Of the 4 pages that turned up, 25 of the cars that were posted stolen, were 99-00 Si's. These cars are the most stolen civic.

So, if I wanted to buy a civic with that body style I would get an Ex and do a swap like you said. But then you are out of that "purty" color blue. Well, that is one of the things thieves look for. "Bright blue civic, it's an Si and I can get **** loads of money out of ever last piece in it."

When I was "in the market for a car," I had a chance to buy an Si in black. Now, depending on how you look at it I un/fortunately could not talk the dealership down to a price I could afford. Now that I have had my car for over a year, I'm glad I didn't get it because I'm almost positive I would be walking or riding my bicycle to school tomorrow.

So with that said, do what you want. If you get an Si, before you invest in any go fast goodies on it, get security and anti-theft devices. Enough that you think a professional will have to spend more than 2 minutes on. Because, if it takes long to steal the car, the theif isn't gonna waste their time on it. Good luck and I hope you are happy with your choice.

it's simple as this...most h-t would agree 99-00 civics look 10x better than the 01+ civics.

but it's your choice in the end.

Well, when i first got my 99 civic it had 88000 miles on it Not exactly low miles, this is why i wanted a newer car. But now that i think about it 88000 miles isnt ****, especially since it was my bros car and he took care of it. The only thing i liked more about the si was the hp, but after seeing it was stick only i wasnt interested anymore. Originally wanted a blue 03 civic but chose the silver. I really miss the 99 civic because it was my first car and i learned to drive on it =0(

Yes i like the Electronc blue, a lot actually. I also like the red , Black would be just as fine. Actually any color 99-00 would do.

Yeah, ive heard about the si's being stolen a lot, actually my friends black 99 si just got stolen a few months ago. Guess what he replaced it with? Yep, another 99 black si, almost looks identical.

My neighborhood is pretty chill and i ususally dont go too many places, let alone places where i leave my car for hours at a time. Im willing to look past the stolen rate, and u could always take the si stickers off, and even change rims.

I dont think miles would be the problem, just depends on who owned the car and have hard they drove it. Plus, my moms bf ia mechanic so ill just take him with me and throughly check the ins and outs of the car.

It's a matter of what you want. Personally, I think that the blue SI will be a pain to find and you'll be paying premium price for it, and on top of that you'll always be a target.

I don't know comfortable you'll be with always having to think about where you're going or if the car is safe.

But ultimately, if you like it, then why not?

If you had a pair of clean EFs for me, I'd trade you mine. I don't want it anymore.

If you want to worry about it being stolen every nite, go ahead. 99-00 Civic Si's were the #1 cars in 03' to get stolen. Keep it garaged and armed.

Put it this way, you can find a stock 99-00 Si with reasonably low (not high) miles for under 10 grand with out a problem all the time on any given day.

You said you aren't interested in upgrading till about a year or so, well do some more research, drive someones Si, and start looking around.

And...Like Spoon.eg said - Make sure you get a security alarm. There is a new thread basically everyday on someones Si being stolen.

i think if you find the right one they're worth buying.

I have a Milano Red '99 Si and it's definitely worth the money i've spent. I have modified it slightly and i absolutely love it. I'm actually thinking of selling it to buy another/newer car, but i haven't found one that i've liked as much as the Si. I'm 6'1" and i sit in it very nicely.

The car perfectly suits my needs, i need:
.a car that gets decent gas mileage -- 33hwy/21cty (documented by me since aug '03)
.a car that can carry more than just me comfortably (seats 4 adults comfortably IMO)
.decently powered
.good handling
.reliable
.maintenance is cheap (oil, brake pads, rotors, etc)

I say yes they're worth buying, just protect it.

I have had my car stolen, but think about this: if you have a swap and it gets stolen your insurance company might not pay you for the swap, they'll just pay you for what car you had. My car has been stolen and it was recovered, some damage and some things stolen, but not too much hassle.

133K miles and running strong (originally bought used with 22.5k for $15.5k

...and since threads are better with pics ...

...and i'm considering sticking with it until i find a better deal....which i have been constantly searching for

as a biased owner of a EBP si, i'd say get one if you can find one. if you can find one in good condition, no question about it but to get it. civics and integras are def cookie cutter cars since everyone has one, but we have em for good reasons...high resale value, fun to tune, cheap parts, and you can drive em into the ground.

i picked mine up in great condition and couldn't be happier. since they are a popular choice of stolen cars... id keep it garaged if you can. if not, keep it covered and autolock is never a bad idea. need something to slow these bastards down!

and yeah, 01+ civics are fugly

I dont think ill have a problem finding an 99-00 si, i see them for sale everywhere. Finding one in blue might be a problem, but then again im in so cal. The red color is nice looking too, just about as good as the blue.

Ill just get one of those clubs that go on the brake/clutch peddle.

And yeah, my old civic fit me much better than this one, and i was 6'3 when i owned it too.

I have driven an si before, first time driving stick i drove a 99 Black si on 4th of july. Ive loved it and wanted one ever since.
