Default Vibrating/rattling shifter? I think i might have a solution!

My shifter used to vibrate at anything over 4000 RPMs, whether or not I was in a gear. It was so bad that it even caused my shift **** to vibrate. Thinking that the shifter was rubbing the exhaust, I brought it to a muffler shop and had the exhaust dropped about a quarter of an inch. Even after the drop, I still had the damned vibrating. I went under the car today and finally took a look at the shift linkage.

The lowest part of the shifter, where the shift linkage bolt passes through, seemed to be the problem. On my stock ITR shifter, there were about 6 metal washers sandwiched between the shift linkage and the shifter. I went to Home Depot and replaced those metal washers with some thick teflon spacers. Tightened everything down, and now there are no longer any vibrations!

i have the same problem, i had to take off my exhaust shield and it stopped the rubbing but the shifter itself rattles above 4k. i used a bushing from a parts store to fix the gap between the linkage and the shifter but it still rattles a bit, got any other ideas to fix it?

Just make sure that the shifter is *very* snug between the shift linkage collar thing. In addition to the teflon spacers, i used these rubber coated metal washers.

When you're underneath the car, have somebody move the shifter left and right quickly. If you can hear some sort of loose jingle jangle, then you've got more washers to add!

i like using the bushings because of one less thing to rattle. i have a washer on each side of the bushing so it wont wear out so fast when rubbing occurs on the shifter and linkage. i guess i have to re-cut some new ones.
