Boosted CRX for autocross/road racing how should i begin?
looking on plannying boost a GSR...... dose anyone have any biuld ups for auto cross...help me on a head start....would like to boost at the highest 14psi but i'm intrusted what you guys have too show me i can learn a thing or too...thanks
well you have to look into the "class" you are going to AX in... and how much RR experience do you have? are you still in HPDE? you need to be very careful with b00sted cars on track... there is alot to keep track of as far as temps and stuff.
i planned on getting the turbonetics kit for the CRX(b-series) and as for experience i really have none except going to open track weekend type thing and classes(training class ETC) so baseically trying to get my foot in the door
, are you telling my it's sorda a minus to have a boosted track car doo to over heating?i wish i could here from someone's track car setup "boosted" so i could here there pro's and con's

I am not very experienced with this but IMO for autocross I would concentrate on snappy response over overal power because you are accelerating and decelerating so much your turbo really does have a chance to do its job. I think you could save the money you could have spent on a turbo and go for ITB's to get some kick *** throttle response....but once again I am not experienced with this and that is just my 2 cents

ITB's give more air flow and better respond to the trottle with hp gains to back it up. i really don't see how there are con's but there expensive IMO.
I actually have no personal experience with them just what I have read reading around on HT, homemadeturbo used to have a great writeup on how to use the throttle bodies off of a suzuki gsx to make ITB's....I know that this is what most of the really strong all motor guys are using as far as pro's and cons I really can't give much advice due to lack of experience. I once saw a video that was posted on here a couple of months back of an integra with 12:1 compression running ITB's and 12 psi of boost....he called the "ultimate response setup" I thought it was pretty friggin awesome but sorry I can't help ya out to much I just was givin ya my opinion
I just saw a video of the car and it was turboed with that high compression they must have spent ALOT of time tunning that and a lot of custom fabrication but it really took off when he got on it....
beginner racer and boost? more power to ya'. make sure you keep it in boost when your downshifting and screaching around corners. if you're going to dump all that money into boost and you want to protect your investment, build your internals and upgrade your cooling (radiator & fan, etc.). lots of $$.

why bother with boost if you wanna autocross? all you're gona do is put yourself in a class with z06 vettes and rx7s which will hand you your ***.
I went to an autocross event and it was in a parking lot..the course was so tight, the driver never even got up to 4th gear.
why make traction, turbo lag,and reliability issues for yourself? all you need is some low end grunt with a short geared tranny.
you should worry about brakes and suspension more than ANYTHING. If you're really set on swapping, get a b18a or b20 with a cable b16 tranny and youre ready to rock.

wow man thanx for clearing that up for me i already have a brake upgrade right now on my CRX have suspention(TEIN type RA)have good tires(falcon AZeNIS) all i need is engine work i had a b20 vtec but i blew it up freeway raceing and Rx7(friend) i have bout 3500(+get payed every week) to work with for my engine i plan to biuld the block and head and, get biult internals and def. upgrade the cooling.....i have a b16 in my car right now but plan on putting the boosted GSR in.....thanx for your reply's you guys have me in a dilema on what i should do!
Are you trying to be competitive? or just looking to go around a track/cones?
To be competitive, you will HAVE to check the rules of the class you want to participate in.
I built my HB with a boosted B16, which bumped me into a ridiculous class. I know realize I built a car that I don't have the skills to drive.
I race my near stock daily driver in STS. The real race car is collecting dust.
Don't make the same mistake I did. Pick a class and follow the rules!

That's the best advice right there. If you are a beginer, I'd suggest starting in the stock classes w/ a nearly stock Si or something so you get the feel for it, and then if you have the time & money & skill you can try & run a boosted GSR w/ the bigger boys.

dang, too bad you decided not to do the whole turbo CRX/auto-X thing. I was thinking about building up my CRX for the same thing, but I just wanted to do it for fun. I wasn't looking to do serious racing, just some laps around the local track for fun.
I was gonna suggest the disco tater (GT28RS), which I think would be a good turbo for auto-zing. If I decide to build up my car for auto-x that's what I might get. Otherwise I'll just stick to a more drag racing type setup and go with something big like a T3/T67 or GT35R.
thanx

between me and you i havent ruled it out yet.......still want to doo it....might just do it and hit-up the open-track weekend's......hmmm...thinking...... i think i'm still do it i already had an NA set up now i want boost and i wanna make it a track car damn this sux i sound like a 2 faced "basterd"(fill free to spell check that) but as for my set up i was gunna just buy the turbonetic full race kit for like 3500$ think thats worth it? or should i just biuld and fine all the peices my self. never had a boosted car so this is going to b knew to me......
I dont know what the turbo specs are for the turbonetics kit. But I think the GT28RS would be the perfect turbo for an auto-x EF. Very fast spool and capable of 300 HP, altough I hear claims of 350-400 HP on it.

Or you can get the GT35R which also spools pretty fast and will make a lot more power.

i think i would save couple 100 more bucks and just get that one..... this has me thinking bout what kit i should get......i like that one but i wanted a big intercooler not the small one(wonder if i will have clearece problems with a bigone)plus i have WW kit on the front wonder if it will fit...hmmm
you might be able to work something out with Full-Race where you can get a slightly bigger IC core. But remember a larger IC will have slightly more lag or pressure drop. Which would be bad for auto-X.
