Question about tire sizes
want new wheels for my car..
want to go with a 17 inch rim.. but i want a low pro tire but not too low pro so which numbers in the 205/30/17 or 215/40/17 207/40/17 would show the thickness of the tire. which tire size is best for a 17 inch wheel
and one other thing.. say i buy from wheelmax.com.. a 4x100 will fit my 95 civic coupe ex.. (in other words.. the offset doesnt matter and it will fit no matter what?) offset is like ET ... something..

what are you puttin them on is it really low?? i would run a 205/40/17 if its not to low but if it is then drop it down to a 35 and you should be cool
heres the formula for tire sizes:
example: 205/40/17
205 is width of tread in millimeters
40 is 40% of tread width which equals the height of the sidewall from the rims outter edge
obviously 17 is 17 inches of wheel diameter.
so what you can do is take the numbers from your stock tire, do the math, add it up, convert from mm to inches, add that to rim diameter to get total wheel diameter. then pick a tire size to match.
the offset is also important. the offset is what pushes the wheel in and out from where it mounts. so if you dont want the wheels to stick out the sides of the car like a skateboard, stay near the stock offset. 4x100 is the bolt pattern you'll need, unless you've swapped.

ok... here i go.
205=the width/40=height of side wall 40%of 205/17 diameter of the wheel
that is how you get 205/40/17
I do this for a living
If you can fit it i would go w/ 215/40/17 but if your car is really low i would go w/ a 205/40/17!!

I Agree.....If you can fit it....215/40/17's

you could also go with a 225/35/17 if you're car isn't too low. but it will probably still rub a little bit on turns.
for some reason it seems 92-95 civics rub with just about anything near stock diameter when lowered. i've been in quite a few and they're always rubbing around turns in like dead ends in neighborhoods or when doing other similar u-turns. i've been in one that was lowered on sportlines and it rubbed when it hit bumps on the highway. it rubbed really bad with passengers in the back, he had 205/40/17's

i just wanted to make sure i was gettin thicker tires so i dont crack them up since they are aluminum
yea and my car is slammed so i guess ill get the 205 40s.. a lil rubin is ok.. i dont make sharp turns..when i had the 18s.. the front fender would touch the tire.(when wheel turned-and tucked nice when it was straight). so will the 205 40 touch do u think? thanks ..
