Your question is very open ended. First specification would need to be Price, That's most likely going to be your deciding factor. Second is going to be the goal of the system and it's components. What are you trying to do, have a "good" sounding system overall, a Sound Quality based system, or SPL or Volume oriented system.
Then you need to know the vehicle your using (For space/fitment restrictions).
Assuming cost is a factor and you are wanting an overall good sounding system I would stick to JL Audio as much as possible. For mids and highs possibly Boston Acoustics. Head Unit Eclipse.

i want a sound system good for listening to music to and watching dvd on. i dont need that ear drum blowing sound. just very good quality. i dont care about how loud it can go.
9 out of 13 world records for loudness say Digital Designs are the best
your going to need to spend a grand on power for each one.. guys in competition are giving them 8-12,000 watts RMS and they are taking it! they get alot of the materials from NASA..
since the company has made studio monitors for years and years they have a firm grasp on sound quality as well..

And how many SQ championships have DD won in IASCA - I'd feel confident saying none....they are good at what they build though.
The question is far too open ended, and I could put together a laundry list of companies who I think make the "best" of something, but it wouldn't apply to this guys goals.

So from what he's saying, he shouldn't use Digital Designs, right?
